Anxious people are terrified to say this but actually letting your date know that this is a very anxiety-inducing thing for you and that there's a chance you may have to leave if the stress is too bad will help set expectations.
You are GOING to be nervous. So instead of trying to stop it, give yourself permission to be nervous because that will make it feel normal and like something you have to hide or pretend you don't have.

@CountScrofula I had thought of saying Im nervous at the start (although petrified is more like it lol), but didnt think of saying I may need to leave. That would take the pressure off me to fear what will he THINK if I did need to?? Ty friend🦋

@Coralmist Probably a mix of worry and wondering if he did something wrong. So you can text him and tell him after.

@CountScrofula And beyond that, it actually helps communicate who you are, and find quite quickly, if you are with someone listening/caring/empathetic towards. Not that I get over the idea that quickly, either. Somewhere, it does have to do with how you value yourself.

Just meet for coffee, and don’t think of it as a date, just a brief meeting to see if you gel with each other. If you do, you can always stay longer, and if you don’t, you can leave after coffee.
I suppose it depends on why you feel anxious, but make it simple. Just wear comfortable casual clothes. It’s just a coffee, so make it like an ordinary everyday event.

Smoking a bunch of pot with them out the gate always worked for me.

Also helps to be going out with someone that you trust to take care of you if you panic. I have had to do that with an ex before that would have panic attacks and types of seizures. Also Try double date with a friend so you have a wingperson.

Perhaps try going to something simple like dinner with a male friend, not even as a date, just to enjoy going out, and build up to a date with someone.

During the date, just think of the monkey and all your worries will fade away

Tell them you're nervous. They are too.
And it's okay,
And if there's not a spark, it's okay.
You can always leave at any moment.

Tell them you're nervous and go be yourself. If they can't handle it they are not worth your time.
