Careful On The Stairs

Huge Ballroom Lecture!

It is raining profusely outside right now. I am surrounded by bright bolts of lightning and loud rumbles of thunder. The windows of the Convention Center are creaking from the wind and the rain is tapping loudly. So exilerating! But my beard is nice and dry inside.

Wow. Those stairs are weird and they look dangerous. Almost looks like an escalator.

Great photos, btw.

@Rutterman

I guess it is so people can make a grand exit to a grand ball (I cannot imagine anybody wanting to walk up those stairs!). Although I cannot imagine anybody wanting to navigate all those in a gown and heels!

Behind those stairs were long tiers of escalators. I took those.

I am back in the center right now, for one more morning of talks.

@JoyfulSilence Good. Glad there was an alternative to that terrifying staircase. 😱

Hope you enjoyed the final day of talks.

I managed to stay awake!

Now I have a 3 day weekend. I slept until 10:30 this morning, and I am eating breakfast at noon!
Poppies · 61-69, F
That looks like a good place to be during the iffy weather!
It would be cool if you could just stay in town until the conference is finished! But I know a hotel close by would cost a lot.
Last night we lost electricity for several hours due to a storm. Now it's raining again. It started off with some thunder but now it seems like we may have only rain with no more thunder.
I know I've said it before, but that beard really looks good on you.
Do you actually have to climb those stairs? I assume there is an elevator option?
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@Poppies

I actually thought about getting a hotel room. But the commute was the same as the one I had pre-pandemic, except for an extra leg of the trip: a short Metro ride.

I have not had to step out in
the rain. Everything is covered!

I have been riding long escalators all day.
SweetMae · 70-79, F
Wow that is a lot of stairs.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@SweetMae

They lead up to a bunch of top floor ballrooms. I took the nearby escalators, though. Yet I saw a young lady run down those stairs!
Scribbles · 36-40, F
YASSS!!! Give me those stairs! 🏃‍♀️❤️
Please excuse me, I simply cannot resist.
*Rushes up the stairs*

@Scribbles Rocky Mountain National Park. I think that building is called the Alpine Visitor Center.

@JoyfulSilence Nice. That's on my list of places to go that I haven't seen yet. I've always heard that the Glacier gorge trail and Alberta falls is very beautiful.
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@Scribbles

I have never heard of those.

I did not do a lot of walking, I mostly drove around.
Beard suits you my friend....

Stay out of rain...... Nice photos....
@JoyfulSilence

Never liked conferences.... boring and mostly useless....

Have nice weekend then, when it comes.... 🤗🤗

@Soossie

I agree, LOL!

But I have to spend time on training, as part of my job. So that is mostly why I am here. My employer is paying. I would rather do this than take classes, where I'd have to do homework and projects.

But some stuff is interesting. And I bumped into some people I had not seen in years. And met some new coworkers who I had seldom met in person before, since we all worked from home!
@JoyfulSilence

There's a good side to everything.... even conferences... ;)
Lolz…looking great, Joy.

It has rained here as well! Woot woot…🥳
@JoyfulSilence Understand….but don’t worry. It’s normal to feel anxious and it’ll take around 6 months to get the hang of things …feel comfortable in your new role. Give it time and don’t lose your patience until then…okay?

Oh dear…why can’t you do those formalities tomorrow? Rest today. 🤗
JoyfulSilence · 46-50, M
@Vivaci

At first I will continue working on current team projects, and as they finish, I will start new ones.

We have 5 days to submit a claim for reimbursement of local travel expenses. It is a system I'd never used before, so I did not want to wait in case I needed help. I already need help. I asked for it and said if it cannot wait until Monday call me at home. As for the timesheet, it is simply the end of the pay period.

I do not want to do this today since technically it would be work time and we cannot work without pay. I have already closed my timesheet. They are REALLY picky about stuff like this. Our union once sued them over it.
😳 oh ok…@JoyfulSilence
