U.N. Report Says Indigenous Sovereignty Could Save the Planet

A new U.N. report finds up to 1 million species are at risk of extinction and ecosystems are declining at a faster rate than at any time in human history but notes that these trends have been less severe or avoided altogether in areas held by Indigenous peoples. Now, these traditional lands also face deforestation, mining and development that threatens ecosystems, the people who depend on them and their knowledge of the Earth.

Oh I am aware about all that’s going on with indigenous natives in the US. We have them in Australia too. Greed and arrogance has brought us to this point where extinction rate of species is 1000x that of normal extinction rates. If we weed this planet of everyone save for these natives who respect the land and the ocean, there will be hope to revive the earth we so fondly desecrate. So much for being broken and clueless 😊@Platoscave

This is the irony: so often the West has disparaged indigenous societies, not only in the Americas but on the African continent and Australia as being “savage”. [b]Now[/b], people are discovering that many of their ways were environmentally conscious [b]by design[/b].
