Why can't we learn the good things from each other's culture here?

A guy who I have never interacted with asked me some outdated questions on my country based on his limited knowledge, preconceived notions, stereotypes, prejudices and false media propoganda.

I had a lot of points in mind to counter it by highlighting issues prevalent in his country. His questions were unwarranted, intrusive and he didn't seem to be in his right mind. Indulging him wasn't a good idea.

He was asking me a lot of personal questions authoritatively and started by saying, "Now that I have your attention..."

And attention is something i didn't give him.

My question is why are people so interested in finding issues in others or their country? Why not look inside , introspect, accept the things going wrong in our country and focus on doing something about it?

My question is why can't we learn the good things about each other's country? Why can't we imbibe the good and be better human beings?

I am more than open to learn about other cultures but i am not a Saint if someone has the audacity to disrespect my country and expect me to do nothing about it.

This place i thought was suppose to be a platform to exchange ideas, thoughts, culture and values.

What is this place really about?

If he has never interacted with you. Tell him to ask such questions in public so that other people can also answer and learn too. If this question related to a Country, he should better ask in the related group.

You are not bound to answer personal question to anyone.

You can ask him, what good he is doing the fix the issues in his country.

@SW-User Do not react, particularly when someone want you to.

Whenever I feel the need to block someone, I don't block them and I take it as a challenge to not react(even not to respond) and maintain my calm. I take it as an exercise to stay level-headed in adverse circumstances.
@SW-User hehehe...
I think this may be a good example of 'miserable old git': bitter and contemptuous.

You dod well not to waste your time.

You have an open mind because that's in our culture. We were taught from an early age to be nice and not judgmental of others shortcomings. The people you're talking about, they are miserable and get kicks out of their pathetic behaviour. I have seen that behaviour in people who I have interacted on here for a long time...so always second guess peoples intentions here. I have been called names for being an Indian...but I couldn't care less about what anyone has to say. I am bulletproof like that.

You have to be extra careful online. There can be nice people here but it's also full of trolls, perverts and close-minded people.
I grew up in a culturally diverse context. Very mixed European and Semitic. I like talking about cultural things, one reason I like working in science. It is wholly international. Always has been. We are colleagues from the beginning, very easy to share. I don’t know if times have changed, or it is this place, but it’s really not acceptable here (on SW) I think. Anymore. It certainly triggers people.

Social media is a convenient anonymous place where village idiots can congregate and be very opinionated and negative. It's also an opportunity to propagate positivity. it's the people's choice I guess. try not to let them goad you, its not worth the effort..

Some people get second hand ego from their culture or country.

Some only blindly see what they want to so it makes them feel better.

Like i could slag india for its slums and feel superior by association we don't have any.
But....we dont have such a majestic history . Or massive culture and largest democracy. And we have homeless scattered through our cities instead.

I think some people feel better by pointing out what they see as failings in others.
