Imagine if we tried getting along, looking at my cat if I say "Hi' while he sleeps just wakes up and says "merrrow' I know the expression before. He finds it easy, and really I have him at no human would accept, but now he is just gently sleeping when he's the feisty one? What gives?
@ServantOfTheGoddess I'd love to have his life... he sleeps whenever he wants, is always awake when I come home? It's like he operates on two planes of existance.
@ServantOfTheGoddess In their dreams, life happens and when they wake up they cast a mysterious spell that we understand, they understood every expression before they never heard?
This is a genuinely original thought, which had never occurred to me. Although, as a Muslim told me, the reason the dog is unspeakable is it's the only creature (presumably excluding man) to make an enemy of its own kind.
@UpForItNow thank you for your kind words! I don't know about that saying about dogs making enemies of their own kind. I wonder what the stories or experiences behind that are. There is a similar Jewish teaching about fish. Most edible animals are supposed to be slaughtered in a particular quick and humane way, but you can kill fish any old way. Why? Because unlike cows, sheep, chickens, etc., fish devour each other!
@ServantOfTheGoddess Re dogs again, I saw this heartbreaking thing on my morning walk awhile back. I thought, that was a doggy murder, and those dogs look like self-satisfied thugs.
I saw a documentary of a Russian study of wolves. Over time, those that became more domesticated also became more diverse in coloring and other characteristics.
I suspect it somewhat mirrors the evolution of civilization with humans.
@DffrntDrmmr I get this. If we look at established Western societies we see considerable diversity and tolerance of it. Whereas life in developing countries looks mostly the same.
I think dogs have more emotional depth than humans but it goes largely unrecognized. A dog trainer for the military said he learned that from many years of spending much of his time with the glorious beings. The reasoning he shared and my own observations and reflections led me to agree.
@REMsleep There is little discrimination in America, at least. There has been a rise in envy and attempts to systemically discriminate via the DEI/CRT bunch, though.
I get what you're saying about the physicial differences, but I'm not sure about dogs mostly getting along with each other even when they are similar in size, shape or color.
For some of the same reasons as humans, dogs even in the same 'household' hurt or kill the other.
@Piper Yes people have been pointing that out about dogs sometimes being vicious to each other. On the other hand, as far as I know they do not do horrible things to other breeds of dogs is organized ways, the way humans so often do :(
