Do you think this 'cancel culture' is actually quite harmful and begets more hatred/judgement unnecessarily?

TinyViolins · 31-35, M
In many ways, yes it is often petty and vindictive and serves to feed a sense of entitlement from self-righteous ideologues. It punishes people for their ignorance and doesn't serve to fix the social dialogue that creates this lack of understanding.

But on the other hand, it speaks volumes to the fact that the privileged elites rarely face any accountability for their actions. The only alternative people see to remedy this lack of justice is to create a cancel culture where mob justice is allowed to thrive.

Ultimately, the question is what is more harmful? A society where certain classes of people are immune to the social consequences of the damage they cause, or a society where impassioned mobs apply punitive measures for what often amounts to flawed perspectives?

No, I think it's for the first time punishing inappropriate and harmful behavior. If people just treated each other with respect and common decency, there wouldn't be an issue.

What I find ironic is those complaining the most about it are usually the ones to block others out.

Look at some of the tweets of businesses trying to refuse service for anyone that has a democratic candidate sticker on their cars.

That's cancel culture as well. No way around it. 🤷‍♂️

Oh, it's definitely harmful, reactionary, and susceptible to abuse. It's far too easy these days to fake something about a person, start spreading rumors, etc. and then watch as the "internet police" ruin their lives.

Basically bullying but a right to privacy? Or right to do business with whomever someone chooses. Or snubbing on an entirely different level.@SW-User
Once I thought the virtual world was a mirror image of 'reality.'

Now I think the opposite. It used to take decades for a shift in society. Now it takes months, sometimes hours.

The effect has taken place before there is any opportunity to dissect and analyze it.

We are riding a runaway horse.

I think that society is breeding pussies which ultimately we all will pay for when we are to soft to fight real threats from other nations.

It’s certainly reactionary. It’d be nice if everyone that called for another’s job found what it was like to lose theirs...

Karma.
