I don't think nukes will be needed. The US is being white-anted from within by disinformation distributed by foreign trolls paid by their governments, principally Russia, followed in order by China, N.Korea and Iran, and possibly smaller players. For whatever reason, from an outside perspective, Republicans appear to be more susceptible to this disinformation. The trolls will achieve everything and more than nukes could. At least if the US was nuked, the people would overlook the political divide and unite against the attacking party/ies.
