Do you just assume that everyone on here is American?

This seems to be a common assumption on SW, even though there are in fact people here from all over the world.

Examples: Posts about "this country", "the president", etc. etc...

Being the center of the universe can be a heavy burden sometimes.
whowasthatmaskedman · 61-69, M
The demographic of the site is majority American. But some of them are good at Hiding it by speaking in whole sentences on some subjects not covered by Fox News. Believe me, you can identify the rest very easily.😷
KaliKali · F
I don't even assume everyone on here is human.
uncalled4 · 51-55, M
I don't, yet I find it interesting how so many non-Americans have such strong opinions about our politics.
Tachyeon · 22-25, F
[@329500,uncalled4] With America's global presence, it's probably harder to not get on American politics 🤷🏻‍♀️
[@939246,WanderingProfessor] this is such an american thing to say... I'm pretty sure Russia and china have bigger military. China for sure has bigger economy
WanderingProfessor · 56-60, M
[@33783,MaliaAgain] Who are you accusing of being American? 😝

A quick online search tells me that the USA is indeed the richest country in the world with the largest GDP, and that while China has more soldiers, the American military remains the most powerful in the world.

Most of them are Americans who have become Dominicans 😜
WanderingProfessor · 56-60, M
[@390760,in10RjFox] retired expats?
in10RjFox · M
[@939246,WanderingProfessor] that was just my pun to mean Dominating Americans ..
Not at all ... we just dominate conversation, cause of our rugged independent nature.
ArishMell · 61-69, M
I don't assume that because I know I know I am not the only SW user who is neither native to nor resident in the USA (I am a British native and resident) - but it's an easy assumption to make, as SW is an American business and probably, most users are Americans.

From EP on I know people from 6 continents,,still waiting for a SWeeP frm Antarctica😷

Also you know where certain people are from if you pay a modicum of attention
WanderingProfessor · 56-60, M
[@335376,bookerdana] Surely someone here is in a research station in Antarctica :D
bookerdana · M
[@939246,WanderingProfessor] I'll keep me eyes peeled😉
SunnyTheSkeptic · 26-30, M
Of course not, I'm not American although a large amount of people probably assume so when they interact with me.
WanderingProfessor · 56-60, M
[@611584,SunnyTheSkeptic] so why do you let them assume that? You could put your actual country on your profile?
SunnyTheSkeptic · 26-30, M
[@939246,WanderingProfessor] It's not something I really care people to know.
Judas · 36-40, F
No, but I've noticed that a lot of the Americans on here seem to, which doesn't say anything good about Americans... of course, neither do our last two presidential choices. 😖
Depends on what time the posts are. Midnight my time is am in UK. It always seems to be morning in India
WanderingProfessor · 56-60, M
[@33783,MaliaAgain] It is always morning in India 🌞 🇳🇪 :)
I just assume everyone is from Australia because of its newly renewed prison colony status

Yes it’s because they don’t see past their borders.
WanderingProfessor · 56-60, M
[@10165,Iamonfire666] that is my impression a lot of the time! But I know there are Americans here who do have a wider angle of vision, as well.
Iamonfire666 · 31-35, F
[@939246,WanderingProfessor] oh yes there are for sure but most think everything that is happening or matters is in the confines of their country.
Northrose · 46-50, F
not at all, if anything i keep encountering/meeting men from south asia
well im assuming you are canadian for now
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
And white

Asificair · M
Think that's presumption, not assumption 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, yes I do, even though I'm not myself. The overwhelming majority of users are from the US.
WanderingProfessor · 56-60, M
[@854658,Asificair] No, I do think it's an assumption. Merriam-Webster's website tells me
Although presume and assume both mean "to take something as true," "presume" implies more confidence or evidence backed reasoning. ... 'Presume' is the word to use if you're making an informed guess based on reasonable evidence. If you're making a guess based on little or no evidence, the word to use is 'assume.'
Anyway where do you get that the overwhelming majority of SWeeps are from the US? I talk with people from other countries on here all the time.
BigBen · 61-69, M
RedPowerRangerThe2nd · 31-35, M
I figure majority of users here are American so I often guess right.
Candie · F
