It's a strange place, England

We are a very strange country! We make up about half a small island on the outer fringe of Europe, yet our language is widespread. The English were immigrants here ourselves, yet many of us protest when others immigrate to these shores. We claim that Football is coming 'home' to England even though versions were played all across Europe, and the Scots wrote the first known rules.
A nation of contradictions; some hate us, others laugh at us, some people may even like us.
Some among us don't even know the difference between England and Britain! Our ignorance of our own history and geography is appalling yet - were we a force for good rather than bad?
Only history will decide that.
Most of us just live our lives, suffer our shockingly poor politicians and hope for better things for our children- just like every people everywhere!

@BluntSm0ker Started LONG before us, you ignorant creature. England - as part of the UK - was the country that STOPPED the transatlantic slave trade. And tried to stop slavery all across the world. The US of course, was one of the last western nations to have slavery and introduced it into the territories they stole from Mexico - the good ole Alamo.

With the Royal Navy a shell of it's former self, no real industry to speak of, and a government that likes to tread on freedom of speech (much like it's done for the majority of it's existence). Not as bad as Germany or other Neo Socialist countries, but still, England is a shell of it's former glory.

@ShadowWolf England was never a super power. After the union with Scotland, as part of the UK, it undoubtedly became a great power, but only as part of the UK. Any post that confuses the UK with England only reveals the ignorance of the poster. And thank God for the policies that try to help the ordinary people- that is one thing of which we should all be proud- although the Tory trash seem hell bent on pushing people back into Dickensian conditions with their right wing autocratic ideas.

@LizOwen I disagree. England was a superpower in the 1600s-1800s. I am including Britain as a whole after the union. After WW1, it started to really lose it's clout. Left wing ideas ruined you people and your country's power.
