I Love Florida

How I Got To Florida... It is kind of a funny but sad story. I worked for a family owned insurance company. They did not believe a woman could do the job as an adjuster..after all what lady wants to climb roofs or get on their back on a dolly and go under a car? ..

i wanted to be a teacher when i grew up but my divorce forced me to quit school temporarily and seek work. I was asked to go into the underwriting program once i graduated..a much safer occupation for a lady..Unfortunately, the program was frozen so i was left with adjusting..Apparently, i was the center of a fight between HR and the claims vice presidents..I was going to be the first token female in their adjuster training program.  They did not want to hire me..nope..so I went in it with the attitude that I was going to beat the pants off the men in that class..And i did.

I was supposed to go to San Antonio,Texas..but the manager did not want me..yes, that is right..did not want me..not personally but as a woman. I was sent to Florida by default. This job changed my life.

I learned that the Vice President that decided to take a chance on me was dieing. I wanted him to know how much he had changed my life by his decision to hire me. I wrote him a letter and thanked him for giving me an opportunity and let him know how much i learned from him.

I was engaged at the time and my fiancee's idea of paradise was where i live..the job lasted but the relationship did not..i love Florida and hope to stay.

In April of 10 my house roof and windows were damaged by hail at the edges of a tornado. I had 4 men roofing contractors claim adjusters and my Ins co woman adjuster. She was all business... got her ladder out and her sons were with her ..they got up on the roof drew a picture of all damage and showed me each place the repair for that place and showed me all the broken windows doors and damaged trim around the door. The men from the roofing contractors were useless. 2 of the men drove in sat in their truck and made the claim paperwork there...I just let them believe they were putting something over on me ..Their co's called to start the jobs..I told them how worthless I thought the guy and their co was ...told them what their man had done ..Sad..The Ins co woman was a real winner and I told the co that..

Florida was good to me for 20 years. I got tired of heat, traffic and having to wait at resturants for an hour even when I had reservations. I retired to Alabama and now it is too hot but at least we do have cool weather in the winter unlike Florida. I had some great friends in Florida and I did enjoy the bass fishing. I am glad you enjoy living in Florida. By the way, I liked the NO INCOME TAX in Florida. Alabama has an income tax which can be 6-7%. Property tax in Alabama may even be higher than Florida and sales tax is 9%. 9% is outragious! I think I may move back to Florida - only kiddding.

You will succeed in whatever you choose to do, and excel in it. Because that's the kind of person you are. You make me happy by knowing you are doing well. Such a fine person....and a lovely lady! Stay happy sweetheart.....
