I Live In Florida
Pure Chance... I was an adjuster trainee for a large insurance company. This company was family owned and very chauvinistic. I happened to be the first woman adjuster trainee hired.
One of the stipulations was that we had to move once training was finished. None of us knew where we were going to be shipped until literally the last minute. All i prayed for was please not California. My mother had just passed away, The estate was in a mess and my family was grieving. They needed me there.
I was madly in love with my boss. He had decided whereever I got sent, he was going with me. (he said that you only love once and that I was his once) That brought me to my knees. He said his idea of paradise was this certain town in Florida..What would be the chances? They had a trainee there and besides, how could I get such a coveted office?
I was out on a claim when the other trainees were called in one at a time. T came running to me in the parking lot as I was coming in from the claim I was sent on.
"Babe, it's time...Time for what? We find out where you are going. OMG. I ran up the stairs and headed to the VP's office. That SOB made me wait~~~on purpose..
Now I respected this VP. He is an alpha male and we see eye to eye..He had underestimated me, being the man he was. He was kind of surprised by how well i had done. See, I had applied for the underwriter position but they had closed the program out. They did not feel a woman would do well adjusting but they accepted me anyway..
He finally calls me in and says "AKH, we are sending you to Oshkosh WI" No you are not. We don't have an office there...(got him). He said how about Nome, Alaska? Nope, no office there either..then he dropped the bomb...How about **** Beach, FL? I laughed and said funny...No, you are going to Florida.
I called T and said meet me in the stairwell. He just knew it was going to be some God forsaken place..When i told him where I was going, tears came to his eyes. He thought his life was going to be complete.. a very sad story that is hard for me to share..
I came to Florida and cussed everyone out for the first year. They make it very hard to settle in but I would not trade this state for any. On a postnote, I found out why I ended up where I did.
I was supposed to go to San Antonio, Texas. The manager had an office full of women and wanted a man..In the bl<x>ink of an eye that changed my whole life.
