Yes, and the fact is that David and Paul [i]did[/i] sin, so I don't understand how in 1 John, John can say, "Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child...". Did David and Paul stop being God's children while they were engaging in a particular sin, but were re-instated after they stopped that sin?

Well, then I think John should have made that clear.

And btw, didn't the father of the prodigal son go running out to meet his son when the the father saw the son yet at a great distance? He had no way of knowing at that point that the son was truly repentant, or just back to hit the old man up for some more money.

@Thinkerbell And King David too said that. We are all at war with our flesh until it is redeemed, like our soul. At least they felt bad and stopped, but there was a heavy price. Davids son I think died after he sinned with Basheba.
