How do homeless people apply for jobs?

I think I might have asked this before in a different context. It might sound like the setup for a joke but it's not. Every job application asks for home address. It's like the second or third thing they ask for. What does a homeless person put for an answer?

When I was homeless, I just put a local business as my address. They never bothered to verify it, or my made-up emergency contact. A lot of the jobs available to homeless people really only care if they'll pass a background check, a potential drug test, and can show up on time to work

Well done! You got somewhere to live now? @TinyViolins

@Grvstu Yeah, this was years ago. I was more of a free spirit back then

Some put the address of a shelter which they may or may not be staying in

Or they might use a friend's or family member's address
I'd tell the truth that I'm homeless, prospective employers might hire you thinking you need work to get out of your situation. Might work against you though, depends on the prospective employer.....

@DropTopDig It will most likely work against you. Personal hygiene might seem like a small thing, but it was a part of almost every employee training manual I saw. I had to rent a cheap hotel room once a week or so to do a deep clean of myself and took sponge baths the rest of the time.
I doubt most would be able to obtain work because of their status.

with cell phones these days , some lying may or may not be involved

I guess you’d have to explain that part to them

Can be very difficult
@Grvstu Hopefully I can stay not homeless.
