Now that the dust has settled, are we over Will Smith slapping Chris Rock?

At the end of the day, a man slapped another man for making fun of his wife.

Personally, in the arena of celebrity scandal this seems pretty minor and forgettable.
Celebrities are people who make emotional and bad decisions, just like you and me.

Will Smith made a mistake but no more of a mistake than any one of us has made in a bar. The only difference is that he did it at the Oscars.
There are actors whose work i have trouble enjoying because of the things the have done like sexual assault or soliciting minors.
This doesn't really register for me.
Gonna go watch Men in Black now lol

Will Smith is dumb imho. Thanks to the slap I learned a lot about him and it did not improve my opinion of the man.
@Doomflower

Well i guess i take a more nuance approach to human experience.
Catholics don's say join the church, we abuse kids. They say join the church, we'll take care of you and you'll live forever.
Scientologists don't say join the church, we'll take all your money and control your life. They say join the church, you and you alone can save humanity from the spiral of degeneracy we're falling into.

I don't think it's fair or rational to condemn people for being taken in. Victim blaming, i call that.

His emotional involvement was all about trying to impress his wife and failing

...and?

I just think the reaction to it is comically overblown

And the person at fault for that is non other than Will Smith himself. If he hadn't made such a poor decision we'd have forgotten about the joke 5mins after it was said. It was a weak joke but those are the consequences of letting emotions rule over you. The overblown reaction from the public to his mistake is equal to his over reaction to a simple joke. It will be a distant memory soon enough though, and hopefully a lesson learned.

lol yes if he hadn't reacted the way he did then there would have been no issue...

The slap was a dumb move, but I’ve also done stuff like that so I can’t really judge him there.

Didn’t he try to push Scientology on a group of kids, or did I read that wrong?
@Imsleepy

No idea. But prosthelytizing isn't exactly crime lol
Imsleepy · 31-35
It’s not a crime, but it does lower my opinion of him if it is true. It was like a school that he had to close because the parents eventually found out that he had the staff teaching Scientology against the parents knowledge. @Pikachu

yes i agree with what you say smith made a mistake with his over reaction but hollywood and the film industry may not be so forgiving with smith . 🤷‍♂️only time will tell on this one [pikachu]

all I know is i get to slap a fool if he makes a bald joke without any consequences and those who defend Will Smith cant say shit about it haha
I don't think it's a big deal. I don't like him any less. The whole thing was dumb.

Well at the end of the day people are very judgemental so Will Smiths movie days are over. He should go and get help and show to his family and friends he is trying to turn things around. Personally what he did he deserves everything he got and probably more.
LordShadowfire · 46-50, M
@Justenjoyit Yeah, because Chris Rock is such a great guy. Making fun of somebody's debilitating immunodeficiency disease on National television was such a heroic move.
