Every time I read about the UK's aircraft carriers in the news it's always because the damn things are breaking down.

Why are there so many issues with these ships?

Because they are very big very complex floating cities and like any city the infrastructure requires constant service/repair/maintenance to maintain operability.

Salt water and machinery don't mix. They take a lot to maintain and I bet they don't have the budget they used to have.

I guess they are very complex machines. In the case of the Prince of Wales,it seems a maintenance issue, the prop shaft was left ungreased,a simple thing.
I actually think the name Prince of Wales is a bad choice, like a bad omen.
The Battleship Prince of Wales(which hunted down Bismarck),was sunk off Malaya in 1941 by the Japanese.

@wonkywinky I live in Singapore, we're quite familiar with the Prince of Wales and Repulse, I hope this ship is spared involvement in a war like that.

England quit making TV sets when they couldn't make them leak oil.

@Tastyfrzz Once they had to stop using oil filled high voltage capacitors in them during 1970's, British TV industry died off!

Apparently there wasn't enough grease on the shaft ;)

I'll bet it's because they chew gum.
