I wanna know about you.

What's your job? Does it make you happy? Or is it a means to just pay your bills? What else would you have loved doing?
Scribbles · 36-40, F
Currently I work in a university. It's ok. Busy now with fall semester starting very soon. Open houses, tours, advising, meet and greets, etc.
I have a fundraiser that I just finished with.

I honestly have no idea what career would add to my happiness.
I've liked well enough almost every job I've had.

I would have loved being a nurse maybe. I could go back to teaching...get another degree. Specialize more. Idk. Sometimes I miss cooking for others again. But I don't think I actually want to get back in that for real. I just like thinking about it. Espeically since I'm passionate about changing American cuisine to being healthier and smaller portions. And I get curious and follow dining trends.

We've been looking at remote work and getting a new job that allows that so we can travel outside the country a little bit. Idk. That's a big change. We've all moved several times around our own country without much worry (but we always knew what the next step was that we wanted very clearly), but we never lived in a foreign country. Trying to figure that out. Tbh, it shouldn't be a big deal. And yet...Sometimes I want to throw my hands up and ask what the fuck I think I'm looking for anyway? I'm questioning it because others are...Espeically since some people are enthusiastic about the idea of us changing everything and are overly helpful and some.people are not happy about it and ask us Why or try to discourage us.

All I can think is that we're unhappy about some things about our country. And trying to seek, idk a new place to call home. a place we want to raise kids in, a place to bring my husband's parents to live too and grow old with us nearby to help. Will moving help? Idk. Do any of my friends or family who move around and live in different countries seem any happier. Not really? Idk? And then I wonder if it's worth taking the leap.

And then sometimes it seems like my husband just wants to stay here and just switch states. To one of the places we like well enough here. It would be easier. We could still switch jobs and travel more and maybe in our travels fall in love with a new place and country and then make the change And then I don't know what to say or do. Am I hurrying too much? Should we move slowly on this? Should we just freaking jump in like.my cousins do and move countries and travel like changing clothes?

Too much freaking expectations. Lol

@Scribbles Thank you for such an elaborate answer! You have clearly thought so much about the changes and it's effects
kimmy159 · F
@Scribbles Honestly the expectation of such a big change may sound alluring and exciting, but if you have so many doubts about the location, it probably means you need more time to think about the location and also consider other places. You could also just move and experience it yourself if moving again is also an option in case you don’t like it? ^^

Customer service and administration management. It doesn't really make me happy (not the job, the attitudes of people lately is just... plus tripple of work and stress). I am doing it for a good reason. I'm just pushing through until I see an opportunity to improve life balance. If money wasn't a factor, I would have been an artist and an author. Creating things makes me feel alive :)

I don't work, I got fired from my last job for joking about killing everybody in the office, even though the psyche evaluation said nah he's all good, he's not a threat. So fuck working, fuck it forever.
trackboy · 22-25, M
@Allelse we have the right to free speech in this country! outrages like that are the reason we need a lot more workplace shootings to stop employers from doing outrages like this. 🍪

@tindrummer Oh I know, oh I crossed the line, the tears and the sins of the father, a good thing I never had a son or he'd be fired too.

I have even three jobs.

In my main job I am the leader of a home for asylum seekers.
In my first side job I am working as a night shift in a shelter for homeless men, and in my second side job I am a tourist guide.

And I love all my three jobs.

I couldn‘t work in a job which doesn‘t make me happy.
Loretta78 · 46-50, F

I work as a finance and office administrator currently. I love my colleagues in the company, but the boss/ owner is annoying and I have to deal with him all the time xD
I didn’t know what I wanted to do for a long time until I discovered my interest in finance. I liked psychology as well but I don’t think I would be fit to be a psychologist, I’m too personal and emotionally involved with people
I used to sell cars. I liked it. I made good money. I moved away and worked from home. I don't do much anymore. I got sick and stopped working. I lost my driver's license so I can't test drive cars. I have enough other income to live comfortably.
Whitelove · 31-35, M
@WonderGirl1 Sick? Hope it's not that bad. What other incomes do you have? I mean what's the work?
@Whitelove I have a piece of the dealership so I get dividends. I used to do ad work from home but my eyesight is failing so I can't drive or do graphics. I have cancer.

I'm a visual artist. I do like it but also, I can't do anything else. I can't really follow along a life lacking creativity..i rebel after a while and run away. Being a visual artist is so far the only career path I am returning back to.. For the moment, I would like to manage and make some more money per year ..but it's okay, I will do that..

I’m a stay at home mom. I’m happy I don’t have to pay someone to take care of my kids. It’s not where I wanted to be but I’m happy. I do want to go back to work because I want to be independent and make my own money. I did start selling online but it’s not going well, but it’s a start and I know it takes time.

I am an economist and I wrote a software package that helps corporate investors to quantify and manage risk. I get no pleasure out of what I do, but it makes best use of my skills and it earns me lots of money.

I plan to work for two more years until I can provide my wife and the children we hope to adopt with complete financial security. Then I will re-train as a maths teacher and do something socially worthwhile for the first time in my life.
thepreposterouspanda · 36-40, M
Haven't had a job in a long time. Not for lack of wanting one, but my body just hasn't cooperated in a while. 🤔
My job consumes my time but it fulfills me. The saying comes to mine "If you love what you do you're overpaid" though another version is "If you love your work you're not working". Both apply to me.
Whitelove · 31-35, M
@onrealityofdreams What is your job?
@Whitelove I know that is part of your question but I prefer not to discuss my job. I hope you understand.

I don't like my job right now, it's a means to an end. I'd love to do something where I was actually helping people again

I'm too embarrassed to say what I do for a living for judgement but I'm a Frontline worker (don't plan to be here for long and I plan on getting educated so my life can be better) no it obviously doesn't make me happy but it's income. I wanted to be an artist and fluent in a language, I wanted to travel the world and make my own comic book.
DDonde · 31-35, M
