Do you think a Degree in Business Administration/Management is useless?

Nanori · F
No, but I also think those skills are best learnt by experience
iMystery · M
@Nanori As is the case with almost any degree I think. One can have a law degree but without experience it could become useless.
More use then an arts/gender studies degree
iMystery · M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout 🤣 I couldn't agree more lol
Sharon · F
Not really, these days the bits of paper one has are frequently considered more important than ones actual ability to do the job. A total incompetent with an MBA is more likely to be employed than a highly competent and experienced person without.
iMystery · M
@Sharon This is true.
Crazywaterspring · 61-69, M
It's probably the easiest degree offered. Minimal math and no foreign language requirements.

No rigorous thinking required. Intelligence and competence scare hr offices.
iMystery · M
@Crazywaterspring Lol I really don't think it is easy at all, talking of experience.

I encounted maths in modules I didnt expect lol.

It proves that you were able to do what it takes to achieve a degree, after that I suppose choices you make etc will define your career
iMystery · M
@SW-User Correct yes
summersong · F
Not useless per se but in and of itself it’s like the liberal arts degree of business.
iMystery · M
@summersong 🤣 I dont think so LOL
SW-User
No. I wish I studied a bit of that
iMystery · M
@SW-User I would not have been eligible for promotion if I didnt do my Business Administration degree. It really is opening doors for me.
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
great to hear that👍@iMystery
HeidiA · 41-45, F
No it’s sometimes a platform to other things.
iMystery · M
@HeidiA Very true yes as it covers a variety of aspects and can be applied in any industry.
Nayla · 51-55, F
iMystery · M
@Nayla I agree
Longpatrol · 31-35, M
I think It's a good degree to get your foot in the door but you'll want to specialise later
iMystery · M
@Longpatrol I decided not to specialise as that can also hinder growth. So far my degree has been really opening doors for me.
[c=359E00]they are chameleon degree,they fit to any kind of business i guess[/c]
iMystery · M
@YukikoAmagi And THAT is precisely why I believe it is very useful and why I completed such a degree. It is really opening doors for me.

iMystery · M
@SW-User I disagree. I find it very useful at work. When I became a first year Business Administration student it helped get me my first promotion.

Now that I have graduated, I am being considered for further promotion once again... just had the interview yesterday... it a Management/Administration degree was a requirement for the position.

Now I just need to wait for feedback next week lol.
SW-User
@iMystery Why did you ask the question?
iMystery · M
@SW-User So that I could hear what others think of course.
Yes fairly useless.
iMystery · M
@MrBlueGuy Why do you think so?
@iMystery Everybody I know that has gotten one has regretted it. That it hasn't helped them in their careers and was essentially a waste of money.
iMystery · M
@MrBlueGuy I guess location matters as it is not considered a waste in my country.
MarineBob · 56-60, M
All depends if you actually use it
iMystery · M
@MarineBob True yes.
