A brand new family of ducklings has hatched at the pond. They are so tiny and I want one so bad but I could never take one. I hope I find one some day that can't be with its mom for some reason and then I can rescue it.
They're adorable at that age. A couple of months later I could wring their necks as they have an adult's energy and appetite without an adult's fear, so they make fishing a misery.
I wonder sometimes if some of the larger fish get a few of the ducklings when they are very small.

Pike do, definitely, but I've also been told that herons get them. I'm still trying to imagine a heron trying to get a duckling down its gullet, though.
