With my husband he knew i liked him but didnt see how it would work so i was a bit distant with him and ge kept trying to persue me because he said i was worth the effort and we went through a lot to be where we are today so i think its circumstantial but usually i think if ur just throwing vibes of your not interested at all they would usually back off unless theyre desperate or crazy
