How many joules does my surge protector need ?

I have a ps5 a 65 inch tv and a avr that would be plugged up to it

2000-2500 joules should be adequate. But be aware that the energy rating is not the whole story in terms of protection.

Check clamping voltage (330V line-to-line is fairly common) and response time (less than 2 ns is ok). Some cheap brands don't provide clamping voltage and response time specs -- I avoid those. Lots of energy handling is of limited use if higher clamping voltage or slow response allows too much of the surge energy to hit your electronics.

Also, not sure if this is still the case, but it used to be that higher energy capability often meant slower response time. Getting the response time down below 1 or 2 ns is important for optimal protection.

@FrozenWasteland https://www.amazon.com/Belkin-12-Outlet-Pivot-Plug-Power-Protector/dp/B000JE9LD4?tag=edit-tech-round-up-20&ascsubtag=07uUru6g8XM2v0T7ZhtqaLo&th=1&psc=1 would that be decent ?

@Thunderyflame That link doesn't seem to work for me. It takes me to a page with a whole bunch of products. The BP112230-08 is the closest thing I could find that matches the description, but the specs for that guy don't provide clamping voltage or response time -- so I can't pass much judgement on it. It might be fine, but I can't tell.

It's not the Joules, it's the response time that you should be paying attention to. The faster the better.
