Apparently they don't like the following smells, so maybe rubbing some of these on the trees will keep them away.

Marigolds, putrescent egg solids, mint, wolf urine, tansy, garlic, thyme, oregano, sage, rosemary, and lavender.

A lavender essential oil might be the best choice and certainly safer than trying to extract wolf urine 😆

Try putting a little fence around them far enough so they can't reach over and close enough to the tree where they don't just try and jump inside it.

Had deer at the old place and after a while I gave up on plating anything. Of course it being a liberal state they couldn’t be hunted. So year after year more and more of them were getting hit by cars and destroying all the topiary in the complex. The morons running the place wanted to plant new bushes and we all told them don’t bother wasting our money. So glad I am out of that sewer of a state

Be glad it's only deer. Around here people are starting to talk about how to live happily with the increasing incidence of bears roaming residential neighborhoods.

I have deer eating the young maples here. Their teeth are so sharp, its like the trees were pruned with sheers.

Hang soap on the branches, they don't like it - fencing is the best though...
