Copperheads, Rattlesnakes, scorpions, yellow jacket wasps, black widow & brown recluse spiders, skunks. A pair of mountain lions strayed up a couple miles away in a rural area & got on a porch while the residents were away at Thanksgiving about 10 years ago, and a black bear got into the city and ended up in a resident’s back yard…the first ever sighting of a black bear in this city since it was founded.

At home it would be copperheads, bobcats, coyotes.
At the farm it would be Mountain lions, rattle snakes, water moccasins, bobcats, coyotes, black widow spiders.

Great white sharks. In certain seasons of the year, they are known to bask close to shore. We stay away from ocean swimming when that happens.
On land, coyotes are the next greatest threat...to pets only. They don't bother people. Coyotes are everywhere there is water.
In WESTERN Massachusetts, there are sometimes black bears.

Rattlesnakes, cottonmouths, copperheads, coral snakes, alligators, wasps, bees, and I saw a mountain lion that I am told doesn't exist around here.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@exexec they are so stealth that in many places you won’t see them .Some are getting captured on wildlife cams though.
exexec · 61-69, C
@cherokeepatti Several others have seen them in the area. I saw one in Georgia 50 years ago when there were supposed to be none there. The state finally asked people to send photo evidence, and pics started flooding in.
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@exexec For some reason wildlife authorities don’t want to accept the fact that there are cougars in areas where they are not commonly seen. I knew a guy from work who went to scout around along a river and found cougar tracks in the sand next to the shallow river. Probably down there hunting for deer and got a drink of water .

Diamondback rattlesnakes, coyotes, black widow and brown recluse spiders

Think we got a snake or two that’ll send you to the hospital. A couple nasty spiders. I know there are coyotes, but they bother livestock more than people. I know to keep an eye out for signs of rabies, but otherwise the only time I actually felt a tingle was walking down the trail and meeting a big ass buck just standing there looking at me. You cannot see antlers that size with nothing but air between you and not hope he’s feeling affable. 😂

Cottonmouths, copperheads. Several alligators in the bayou up the road but if you leave them alone they leave you alone. Same with the coyotes
cherokeepatti · 61-69, F
@JesseInTX We used to play in the creek when I was a really young child and play about 20 feet from a nest of water moccasins. They’d warn us by opening their mouths when we’d walk down the road and up to the creek and then leave us alone when we played in the water.

Coyotes and Bear instill the most fear.
Though you're far more likely to be attacked by a wild turkey.....
Raccoons are the biggest troublemakers.
And the stupid deer are always eating my flowers....

Actually, I was just being sarcastic. This herd is rather tame, since people feed them. They do fight each other for position, though.
They have the potential to attack me, though, so I do not get too close. But they usually approach me, begging.

Those in front in the second photo are just babies, born this year. I remember when they were tiny. Now, they practically blend in with the adults.

They are the timber rattlesnake, pygmy rattlesnake, cottonmouth, and copperhead. Ratsnakes can be found in Tennessee, but they are not venomous. People can have deadly encounters with black widows and brown recluse spiders
