Bears are our brothers. Brother, please leave the sunflower seeds to the birds..

I believe
I have a bear...
Northwest · M
They're just out looking to eat/feed their families.

I follow a strict regimen to put any potential food inside, and use lockable garbage bins in a second home (the community is required to do the same).

The objective is to make sure they remain wild, and not used to foraging for food around houses.

Had them once attack my hot tub. They removed the lid, and got in. I had the lid replaced with a different type of insulated lid material that bears don't like.

Good luck with that, but they will probably be back looking for food in the same spot.

I don't understand why some people feel the urge to hunt black bears :-(

@Northwest i dont understand either. The meat is gamey, greasy and awful. I feel like it must be akin to eating a heavily fattened human.

I will have to keep bringing in the seed for the rest of the spring and summer. Then again next year. After that i should be good.
Ive been here for many years. This is a first. Ive seen them, but never on my property.
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M

They are here too. They eat all the deer feed. I stopped putting bird feeders up in the summer. They wreck them
Carla · 61-69, F
@LunarOrbit ive been feeding my birds for years. I have pairs that are residents and love them.
I will opt to bring in the feeders in the evening. Stays daylight here now till 10pm.
LunarOrbit · 56-60, M
@Carla Good idea. Happy birds!
Carla · 61-69, F
@LunarOrbit i think so.
My jays are the size of crows and doves the size of quail(exaggeration) but they are big!
Piper · 61-69, F
I like bears, and got involved in fighting the bear hunt here. It's a shame about your bird feeder, and I know I wouldn't be feeling real kindly towards a bear that destroyed mine, either.
I've not had one on my property, but my dad and his 'lady friend' did once. That bear just ambled on through the neighborhood for a bit, and moved on.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Piper they mean no harm. They have an urgent job to do in the garnering of sufficient reserves.
I will remove the enticement in the evening, and he will have no reason to keep coming.
I have to keep the doggie door closed now though.
Buster would think he could take him.
Im stunned they didnt know he was there.
Piper · 61-69, F
@Carla That sounds like a good idea, for sure. I'd be be worried about my little dog Lexi too, if I saw or suspected a bear was visiting my backyard. Just yesterday, she ran barking at a large hawk that landed when she was outside. She weighs about ten pounds, has congestive heart failure, and would probably still think she could 'take' a bear.
Barny52 · 56-60, M
Nice and we complain about the mice eating the bird food here
Carla · 61-69, F
@Barny52 they are. An average male black bear goes between 250 and 400 lbs. You dont want to get between him and the bird food...
Fluffybull · F
@Barny52 And the squirrels 😉
Barny52 · 56-60, M
@Fluffybull do you know what I couldn’t for the life of me think how to spell squirrels that’s why I said mice ,, idiot xx
Barefooter25 · 46-50, M
Yogi doesn't eat bird seeds. You can rule him out as a suspect.
Carla · 61-69, F
@Barefooter25
I keep my pic a nic basket in the house.
Teslin · M
Bear prints ?
Teslin · M
@Carla Keep the pets inside and be careful. You need a trail camera
Carla · 61-69, F
@Teslin oh, i am.

Funny you should mention a cam. A friend offered to loan us one.
Teslin · M
@Carla At least you would confirm the culprit. Plus, that would be pretty cool to see a bear in your backyard 😀
cycleman · 61-69, M
Looks too tidy for a bear to have touched it
Hassan · 22-25, M
Do they attack humans?

@SW-User i have as well. But a raccoon would cause my dogs to go berserk. A bear on the other hand, would scare them silent.
Going to look for bear hair on my fence.
A five foot high fence.
Im hoping i dont find it.
But ive seen a big one just up the road.

@SW-User they have never been in my yard before.
Not real happy about my busted up feeder.
