I've never touched a sloth either. I think I'd be too scared also. They look pretty serene but also fragile.

I (think) because of how slow moving they are and what you described in terms of smiling, it's also difficult to tell if they're actually happy or enjoying the environment they're in. So that's probably why a lot of effort goes in to taking care of them.

I was about to suggest a turtle but someone beat me to that haha They're cute and pretty chill!

@InferenceEngine I babysat a mother and baby sloth for a day. I cannot fathom they would be legal to be owed but nevertheless you would need a very large enclosure with lots of trees so they can climb and it would need to be warm and well ventilated. Honestly they just need to be In The jungle

Now you're making me wanna go to a petting zoo. I've been to an aquarium where I got to pet starfish and sea urchins

@iamnikki I had a little turtle when I was a child. It was kind of cute but not a whole bunch of fun. It just kind of sat there. lol

@hippyjoe1955 the last one I had was around 10 years ago. I used to spin him on his shell like a spinning top. Then watch him run across the coffee table lol.
