I Don't Like It When Someone Lies to MeSelf-directed lies, and the outwardly directed lies that spring from them, are way more common than lies that people knowingly tell. Of course, just because someone lies to themselves before they lie to you doesn't make being lied to any more fun.
I Have Random ThoughtsIdeals need to be tempered by reality just as much as reality needs to be tempered by ideals.
I Am Going to Say Something ControversialFor those who believe in policing the world: You can't force a person to change if they don't want to, much less a group of thousands or millions of people, you can only police them and force them to do what you want for as long as you have a gun...See More »
I Have Strong OpinionsAnger is the ultimate focus-shifter. When your argument makes someone angry, that either means that you're a jerk in what you said or the way you said it, or it means that you're right, and anger is the only way that they can hold onto their...See More »
I Hate LiarsLiars instinctively hate honest people - just by existing, honest people threaten all of the justifications that they've created for the way they live their lives.
I See Things Differently Than Most People--What's wrong, is wrong-- A character in a show I was just watching said something that really spoke to me. This young girl’s family was incredibly powerful and influential. She talked about how she could be as selfish as she wanted to be - how...See More »
I Am Trying to Break My Bad Habits--Blame vs. Responsibility-- When you do something wrong, don't blame yourself and beat yourself up for it. Don't just wail about how you did it and how it was terrible. Don't just wallow in guilt and scream about how terrible a person you are. More...See More »
I'd Rather Get To Know You Than Small TalkEspecially on here. With irl small talk you can communicate a lot with eye contact and body language. You can communicate a lot on an emotional or playful level that can make the small talk a lot more interesting. But on here it's just text, which...See More »
I'm Pretty WeirdI figured out a long time ago that I'm always going to come off as weird to people. I'm not big on fitting molds in general, and I have an accent no one can place that immediately makes me stand out. So if I'm going to be weird anyway, I might as...See More »
If you woke up tomorrow and the things holding you back the most were magically gone, what would change for you?
I Want Personal GrowthNone of us are ever ready to see the darker parts of ourselves, until we are. There's no shame in that.
I Am Against All Forms Of AbuseThe best way to bring ugliness to the surface is to create a group or social context in which that ugliness is celebrated. Just because you have a group of people around you that say it's okay doesn't make it okay.
I Am Trying to Break My Bad HabitsIn some ways, pride can be almost like a drug. It feels so "right" when it's flowing through you, but then afterward you look around and, if you're honest with yourself, you realize that all it did was do damage to your life. And if you're not honest...See More »
I Hate PridefulnessPride needs to be right, and it needs the other side to be wrong. Pride needs to win, at any cost. It insists that everyone who disagrees with it is wrong to the point of insanity, and it loves knocking those people down a peg. Pride loves hurting...See More »
I Often Have A Differing Opinion From The MajorityThe second you decide that this issue, this opposing person or group, is so important/bad/whatever that it's okay to drop human decency and act like a scumbag in order to fight for/against it, you lose something in yourself that's more important than...See More »
I Want to Be a Part of Something Bigger Than MyselfI think that there's a deep power to aspiring to live a life of truthfulness, that includes weakness, and is tempered by kindness.
I Hate PridefulnessHate only hurts and destroys. It doesn't matter what you're fighting for or what you're fighting against - if you fight by tearing apart the other side and treating them like they're not human because they disagree with you - like having the opinions...See More »
I Am Going to Say Something ControversialOne of the biggest and most controversial debates in the mental health world is the question of how much power people with depression have over the direction that their depression takes, in the long term. Does neuroplasticity mean that people born...See More »
I Am a Writer of Poetry, Short Stories and NovelsI recently submitted a story for publication for the first time - to a website that specializes in the genre I was writing in. It got accepted and published, unlike 95% of the stuff that gets submitted to the site, but it ended up getting...See More »
I Have Random ThoughtsWalking away from something that isn't good for you is as hard as sticking things out with someone even when times are tough. But those are both easy compared to knowing which one to do.
I Am a GamerLately I've gotten really into XCOM - Enemy Within, Longwar Mod, Ironman Mode. It's designed to make the game as hard as possible without being stupid-hard. It also makes it so that I can't undo anything by reloading an old save (if my people die,...See More »
I Love a Good Quote"The people who are the best at winning arguments are also the people who are the worst at learning from them."
If your chances of ever deeply connecting with anyone again were practically zero, what would drive you in life?Just take the whole not-connecting-with-people part as a given.
I Have Random ThoughtsThe past is what it is. No matter how I spent the last 31 years, those 31 years are still gone. I could have been sipping margaritas on a beach or living it up as a millionaire and those years would still be gone. I could have been living homeless on...See More »
I Need A Place Away From EverythingWhen I was 17 or 18 I had a close friend live with me for a couple of months during one of his early attempts to get away from his abusive mother (he eventually ended up moving in with his grandparents). Before this, there were a zillion times when...See More »
