Obama Says U.S. Lacks Leadership on Virus in Virtual Commencement Speech

Without the springtime rituals of traditional graduation ceremonies, former President Barack Obama delivered a virtual commencement address on Saturday, urging thousands of graduates at historically black colleges and universities "to seize the initiative" at a time when he says the nation's leaders have fumbled the response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The speech combined the inspirational advice given to graduates with pointed criticism of the handling of a public health crisis that has killed more than 87,000 Americans and crippled much of the economy.

Mr Obama called the current administration's response to the pandemic "anemic and spotty" in a private call last week with thousands of supporters who had worked with him.

It's hard to think about how the death toll and economic impact would have been SIGNIFICANTLY less under Obama. We have the worst possible leader and administration in place right now. And if we didn't live in such a dumb fucking country lives would be saved.
But you know the saying. When the going gets tough - conservatives whine like children.

I can’t help but think—this is a legitimate criticism, by someone who did the job and would know. It’s [b]not[/b] a personal attack on Trump and it doesn’t call him [b]weak[/b], [b]stupid[/b] or [b]a loser[/b], use any of the standard personal insults [b]he[/b] tends to use against anyone who disagrees with him.

But you can bet Trump will see it as a full-blown attack against [b]him[/b].

@bijouxbroussard I can only find one point to disagree with Obama on here. America has plenty of leadreship in this subject. All of it seriously flawed. Leaving the bitter and twisted President aside. (Something most Republicans would love to be able to dou) This whole philosophy has been about placing money ahead of people. And now the attempt to reopen when the pandemic is just biting across the heart of the nation is going to make this so much worse in areas that have the least preparation. and less resources .

@bijouxbroussard You're absolutely right, Bijoux, and, to make matters worse, Trump "dismantled the National Security Council's pandemic response unit in 2018" and now says "I didn't do it."
