Post this again in 25 years when your children are paying for therapists and deep into bdsm. Good luck!
Mrsmeta · 46-50, F
Umm... source ?
@Mrsmeta:

I did a quick search for the specific study I was referring to but couldn't find it. However, I will get back to you on this subject and these types of studies –this is a continuing series—and this specific topic has to be addressed (it is a big part of Rousseau's makeup). But my statement is the general consensus among mental health professionals, unless they are on an ideological anti-spanking crusade. On the left-wing website Counterpunch we find an objective sex therapist repeating this consensus:

“Some of us love to be spanked just because we weren’t as children. As a sex therapist, I’ve heard thousands of stories of how being spanked as a child led to an adult spanking fetish, and I have encountered even more individuals who were not spanked as children, but enjoy the erotic rush of child-like feelings they get from being spanked as adults.” [c=#BF0000]http://bit.ly/2kOrImI[/c]

Of course, no one disputes the most important statistic -- the vast majority of children who are spanked do not develop any kind fetish except a fetish of responsible behavior.In other words, there is no correlation, much less causation. And then I have to wonder why do you people care? The only people who bring up this erroneous claim of a correlation between childhood spanking and an adult fetish -- are those tolerant sexually liberated folks on the left who have no problem with (indeed celebrate) any type of sexual fetish.

@Mrsmeta So, in fact this assertion of the link between childhood spanking and adult "Spanking" interest has finally been objectively studied by our research team in 2015. The problem with these anecdotal "Claims" is that they correlate something that the vast majority of adults have experienced.

In fact, using this false correlative method would show that children who have been bathed regularly or have been read bedtime stories in childhood, have a higher correlation with adult spanking fetishes than those who have been spanked... Now for the conclusions from a study of adult males with self-professed adult spanking interest.

(1) The study looks at per-capita spanking interest in countries that have banned spanking, and finds no relationship between this occurrence and the time spanking was banned: Actually, in culturally similar countries, Norway, the 2nd country to ban spanking (1983) has the highest amount of spanking interest in all EU/Scandinavia, and is double the fetish rate of France, where recent polls show 87% of children are spanked today.

(2) The study shows that adult males with this interest are TWENTY-FIVE TIMES more likely to be Non-Straight, meaning this is a form of sexual expression between consenting males

(3) The males in this group were 2.3 times more likely to NEVER have been spanked in childhood relative to societal averages, and

(4) While 4% of respondent's fetish can be linked to constant and harsh physical punishment (which a lot of data supports is an inferior approach), an equal number of respondents have never been spanked and resent, or feel damaged by and the victim of the positive/permissive parenting styles they were inflicted with, and look to strongly-guiding parental figures as adults - something denied them in their childhood.

So all-in-all, these claims have no basis in hard social science.

@OKWTFN: I don't know how old you are or if you have children or even grandchildren.

Would you spank your grandson or granddaughter? No you wouldn't. Do you know anyone who doesn't love and respect their grandparents? No you don't. You know why? Because children was never spanked by grandma or grandpa but they loved and respected their grandparents.

Nobody wants to disappoint those who they love and respect.

It's disgusting.
You are one twisted lady.
I expect this type of response from the Left and their useful idiots – it goes with the territory.
Glad I didn't cause a start. That would have been tragic.@beckychandler:
@CurvesRock: I guess I am slow on the uptake, but I don't understand that remark

Here we go again. Blame the Left.
I would be willing to listen to it all, but only if you can define it properly, and not just parrot Fox's propaganda.
Just like the Republicans vary in their political beliefs, so do the Democrats.

You use a broad brush, and overstate a lot.

I am a laborite leftist. Now, can you define that ?

For years people have been spreading poison about us, and it's not even accurate.

It's handy to have a scapegoat, but the answers to your frustrations are not so simple.

I like structure. As a film buff and sometime screenwriter, I have always preferred the way peoples' (actors') psyches were structured as demonstrated in movies of the 30s and 40s.

You can't be loose and communicate your message unless it has some structure. It is the vessel of communication. That is how fancy, fantasy, lyricism, sentiment is expressed from one person to another.

Western Civilization is undergoing a decline, and I can show you just as many examples in the Conservative world as you can in the Liberal world.

I lived in a small town in Maine, a Republican majority town, and we all got along. We teased each other a bit, good naturedly, but we respected the opposite views. It was respect that made our community civilized. The Roman forum, originally, was a forum, where debates took place.

You will get nowhere if you never listen to the other side. Demonizing is self destructive. That Democrat that you hate so much is just as much a human being as you are.

One of our Republicans was Margaret Chase Smith. She was the first senator to stand up that bully Joseph McCarthy. He was no more a real Republican than Trump is.
Beware of false prophets. They're everywhere.

I think spankings as a form of discipline is wrong. It's revolting as whipping in the old days of slavery. It breeds hatred or worse.

Love and understanding works better.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@OWTFWN: I guess you're right. I'm sorry

@SimplyTracie: 😛😹
@SimplyTracie Right and while spanking may discourage repetition of an act, it really doesn't explain why repeating the act would be morally wrong and perhaps bring dishonor to the child and to her/his family. Thus, spanking by itself rarely teaches "right from wrong" and indeed risks creating anger and hatred/resentment for/of the spanker.

“Terri, You have 11 kids who give you the credibility to say what you have about something which has become a 'delicate' issue. It is so baffling to me that so much paper has been wasted on whether or not children should be spanked. Intelligent people actually pay money to buy the books that labor over something that takes only a few seconds from a loving parent and can change the future of their child. God bless you for your courage to share this much needed lesson!” ~ Martha Wessinger, in a comment to a short 2013 essay by Terri Bonin @ Laundry Moms [c=#BF0000]http://bit.ly/2lGoYaf[/c]

Society does seem to be getting angrier and there is so much less respect for others.

We seem to be living in a world where all that matters is the individual.

Narcissism is on the rise.

Society is fed, unattainable dreams by the media, which leads to unhappiness.

Society does need a fix.

Growing up we had pets. When I started my own family we had pets and still do. I'm talking dogs and cats. When the mom had babies she did discipline her babies, when she felt they needed it (?), by giving them a swat, 2 or 3 if she 'felt' it was deserved (I think ?). It didn't appear that it was done in anger or was abusive. I don't remember any times that the baby, habitually, continued to require continuous swats for the same offense. There wasn't any ritual to the discipline it happened at the moment. Other animals do seem to learn faster, than humans do, what is acceptable and what isn't. We learn from pain, we also learn from abusive pain. As the babies grew up I don't recall any weird or perverted behaviors in the pets as a result of being disciplined.

I'm on the left but I spank.
I guess you have to blame those EVIL liberals and leftist people for all that is wrong in society. Without them, we would all have perfect children.

different people/culture, different style. it does work for sure but everyone has their style

I think you are narrowing your vision by generalizing as leftists, but I know I can't explain this to you.
TheWitness · 36-40, F
Were you spanked a lot as a child?
Yes, we were spanked quite a bit. I discuss this a little bit in this post, where I also discuss that this is about much more than just spanking and that is VERY IMPORTANT to understand if you want to get what I am driving at: https://similarworlds.com/story?fid=2327115&tid=585015&name=I-Am-A-Strict-Mom

Interesting that this quote comes from Ireland, which used to have a reputation for robust, no-nonsense discipline.
And fleeing to America.
@CurvesRock: I'm not sure about the connection here. The fleeing to America was about starvation, The Potato Famine. ???
@CurvesRock: LOL

Keep the great posts coming. As a grandfather, I see the differences in young adults who were disciplined and those that were not.

Spanking and discipline are separate things.
