Why did I bother picking up the phone? This person is talking about a bunch of nothing and I'm bored to death. I have nothing to say so I'll just say someone needs me so that I can hang up.

Not that I advocate this but, "I'm going through a tunnel, I might lose servi- (static noise through your mouth). Or just hang up, turn off your phone, and say you were in a bad service area.
One of the hardest things that us introverts have to deal with is human connection that we didn't choose. It's worth it but my god is it taxing.

Maybe you mean something to that person. It doesn't help with the boredom, much less amount to much, but it could still be a valid explanation as to why that person decided to bother you.

And I do agree with you. I've turned away plenty of well meant attention from people that just want to talk to me and enjoy my company. But, sometimes an introverts gonna introvert. Gotta recharge the battery eventually, right?
