Do you get random phone calls with no one there?

For some reason, every so often I get muliple random calls (I assume robo calls), with a local area code, where if I answer, there is absolutely nothing there. Most days I don't get any, but then when I do get them, it's like 5 calls in a few...

Often, that is a wrong number, intended for a fax machine or some other non-voice connection using a phone line.

@DrWatson I've had it happen too often, like four times in 3 hours, and then happens once again very later on in the evening.

Plus doesn't a fax machine make a noise that you can hear and understand it's a fax machine? Or did they get rid of that?

@Viper In our case, it is our land line that gets these calls. So I am guessing that a digital device and a non digital device cannot talk to each other, and hence I do not hear anything.
