I Am a Curious Person

Being as I'm British I feel entitled to be excused for not knowing. It's the Trump thing. Obviously this guy, for all his political inexperience, has struck a chord with just over half of American voters. He can't behave himself around attractive young women, he's a tax-dodging billionaire and the kkk support him. Yet still he is admired by a large wedge of American society, including women and non-white people, who by any standards are perfectly decent, intelligent folk.

Since I'm not American, what I see of Trump is his bad press. Since I'm open-minded I'm convinced there is a reason I shouldn't take that bad press at face value. So I wont. Trump speaks for something that's been overlooked, repressed even, and i dont know what it is. It's not fair to label all his supporters racists misogynists and homophobes because I know it's not universally true. But I'd love to find out his appeal, given the unexpected shock of his election, and some of the reported fallout resulting from it

Well first off, although the KKK supports him that doesn't mean he supports them.

I don't understand why people are against keeping illegal immigrants out. ILLEGAL is in the name. He supports the 2nd ammendmant which is one of the few things ensuring that if ahit hits the fan we the people will be able to oppose the government and snap it back into order. Furthermore it's the only thing ensuring that those less good minded don't inhibit our rights.

Donald Trump is not against People of color... I'm still alittle surprised he managed to get a good deal of them given that most vote for the left but that's neither here nor there.

Trump wants to oppose radical Islamic terrorism. Unfortunately im this day and age it's difficult to tell who is and who isn't. So many refugees have taken the loves of innocent people. Until terrorism is brought down heavily on the global sense the United States shouldn't bother with trying to help countries im the middle east (let's be honest here we do it to save face and to keep a renewable source of oil available.)

America doesn't need refugees we have enough immigrants as it is (from any country.) We need to take care of our economic structure before we look to increase the population any more (only so many jobs to go around.)

As far as the whole pussey grabbing nonsense goes I'm not saying he's necessarily right on that, but can anyone say with a clean and healthy conscience that they haven't said something that wasn't politically correct around a private social group?

Besides Hillary Clinton is even worse. She was an adamant anti LGBT supporter, she has dressed up in black face for halloween, and she has even bragged about abusimg a flawed legal system to help get a rapist out of trouble, amd she berated a 12 year old victim.

I voted for Donald Trump because I want someone who is going to put America first. Lack of political experience means nothing. George Washington wasn't a polotician he was a war general and everyone loves him, same as teddy Roosevelt, and Grant. It's a sad fact that politicians nowadays have degraded into being people who promise everything under the sun with vague plans. Donald Trump is one of the mos specific candidates we've ever had in terma of whats he's going to do. He's not afraid to go against social norms if it means gettimg the job done, and he won't back down when presented with a threat. That's how America should be. In recent years we have had politicans who predominantly pander to social minorities and meet their needs first so to ensure their steady and sound numbers for reelection and party dominance. Furthermore diplomacy just isn't working. I appluad the effor but nkw it's time to draw the line in the sand.

@carpediem: thank you but as i said i wasnt asking for a debate; i'm not interested in denials, and i have the sensible information I was after, from a sensible source
carpediem · 61-69, M
@damselfly: No debate here. Just facts. You now have them. What you choose do do with them is up to you. Feel free to live in denial, that's fine by me. I could care less. Or don't. Either way, you now have a perspective from someone who actually voted for the man.
SW-User
Well I don't know about british news, so they could have very possibley told you that. I honest don't care about political affiliations. I'm a core facts kind of guy. If there are tapes of him admitting to it can you please lead me in the right direction? I have yet to find any. The media hates Trump over here and if they had access to such incriminating evidence then I would be surprised if the American people of all demographics wouldn't have heard of it. I just want the facts here, even if it proves me wrong.

Jesus, damsel, Nooooooooooooooo!

ABORT! ABORT!

I've tried to have this conversation, after extensive research on my part & I tell you this will come to no good. Otherwise, I'm 100% 🤐
damselfly · 100+, F
You were right. This is getting me nowhere. Lol
Sonnet · 41-45, F
@damselfly: hate to say I told you so. Lol!

Ah, never mind. * saunters away, whistling*

I don't agree with everything he does or says. I don't consider him tax dodging...he used our current tax code. It's legal and any smart business owner does the same. Hell..I use the tax code to my advantage too.
He's not a politician. He runs businesses. I think that's the biggest appeal...we all know our government can't be trusted.
Not that he can be..who knows. But he's something different. And nobody else is stepping up to try and take charge.
damselfly · 100+, F
Trump, a billionaire, is generally advantaging himself by living off American largesse. You can overlook it for some greater good if you think it's smart, etc, and that as President he will do similarly smart things for America... but legal or otherwise, it is still tax dodging. The accusations against him seem remarkably well founded - and he admits them - so I'm not interested in denial, but why people are willing to turn a blind eye. I want to know What he has going for him that is SO strong that people are willing to forgive him so much. Stepping up to take charge is big, but... is that it?

@IstillmissEP: most people aren't seeing the larger picture. Your post was informative.
damselfly · 100+, F
I'm not sure that i agree that nationalism is what Brexit was about
carpediem · 61-69, M
Trump is anti-globalization. Hence the bad press. Looks like that's all you know.
damselfly · 100+, F
I know nothing. I admit it. We hear stuff and its all bad, so my thinking is, there must be more to it than we're being fed. But what? What does he stand for?
carpediem · 61-69, M
@damselfly: end illegal immigration, lower taxes, fix the health insurance mess called Obamacare, protect American jobs. All bad things to the globalization supporting media. Therefore they bash him relentlessly. But the people are anxious for change and made their choice very clear.

Globalization, UN Agenda 21, and ICLEI, along with NAFTA and other bad treaties, have enriched a few powerful people but have ruined America in every way. People are finally waking up to it. Trump, unlike Clinton and other politicians, did not ignore these situations.

Its his Charisma. Being Britsh he is America's Nigel Farage. For too long Americans have been sick of lies and being told waht they should think and do. Reminds me of Labour and the Conservatives...! But Americans ar emore braver and ahve not ad the sort of LIberla brainwashing and patronizing we ahve had with the like of may, Corbyn, Blair, Brown etc Im also unashamedly a UKIP voter. YOu only ahv eto look at the disgusting Diane Abbott who is a campagne socialist and a disgrace to decent Black women. Labour and the Tories only have themselves to blame.

There must be more to it than charisma. In fact the purpose of electoral colleges was to protect the people against snake oil peddlers being elected. And Farage wasn't openly racist. He was against the free movement of other Europeans (the same majority race) from poorer economic zones such as Poland, Rumania, Albania, Bulgaria, etc who might be perceived as taking advantage. I don't think even the most ardent Brexiters ever minded French, Germans, Dutch, etc coming into the country. And RemaINers, just as reasonably, don't trust our own snobbish, London-centric governments to spread the power/money fairly and even handedly everywhere - because they have proved to be untrustworthy. Both sides of that particular fence are easy for me to understand
GarciaMarquez · 56-60, M
Did you just say that women are, by any standards, perfectly decent, intelligent folk? If so, you can be curious all you like but you'll never understand. (Did you miss me?)
damselfly · 100+, F
Good to see you've been defrosted in time
goliathtree · 56-60, M
Is that a bit of freezer burn I see?
GarciaMarquez · 56-60, M
I'm not sure. The autopsy will probably determine its cause.

This line isnt really helpful to my understanding of the situation, however witty and intellectual it might seem, guys
carpediem · 61-69, M
@damselfly: Agreed. This man is an America hating troll who shows up to denigrate my country at every opportunity.

strictly speaking, it was technically under half. but we don't do things by the popular vote. I think a good part of his appeal for many people is that he's seen as something different. an X factor that can maybe shake things up in some way. I don't know if he can or will, but that's my impression.

Idiot. He is looking to change the environment to make it beneficial again to stay and do business in the US instead of some crap hole like say... Scotland. Oh why bother... You live under a bridge.

He did lose the popular vote, but the so called electoral college, gave him what he needed to win. I think he's a total disgrace and he's setting this country back in so many ways...
walabby · 61-69, M
Two years later, but I don't rely on the press. Just looking at his Twitter posts tells me enough. There's nothing like getting one's info from the horses mouth... :/

Trump wears his imperfections on his sleeve. He unapologetically puts catsup on his steak. Even a $200 steak. He's so politically incorrect that we love him. Well, most of us do. Those who have a lifetime investment in being politically correct hate him with a passion.
damselfly · 100+, F
@Heartlander aaaah! NOW I get it!
GarciaMarquez · 56-60, M
@damselfly So do I. How depressing.
