Dune (Frank Herbert)...

...and it's sequels.

Anyone ever read any of these? The original series by Frank Herbert.
I found it a great, simple and easy read. Well the first novel at least.
Very layered, with a lot going on. For the casual reader it's a great page turner, like LOTR.
For it's cult fans they can read more into the story.
It frequently tops the polls of "best sci-fi" novels. But there is debate about how good it is.
For it's fans it's the greatest sci-fi novel ever, for it's scope and the quality of it's writing.
It's detractors see it an illiterate farrago of sci-fi nonsense.
For those of you who have read it, what are your opinions on the novel?

I read them all. They were pretty good but I have read better farragos of nonsense... :)

I tried it decades ago. Couldn't get into it at the time.
