"Midnight Confessions" (1968) - The Grass Roots

This is the American rock band's biggest hit, reaching #5 on the US charts and #4 in Canada. It's one of 14 songs by the group that made it into the Top 40.

The Grass Roots version of "Midnight Confessions" is not the original one, which I was surprised to learn. The song actually was first recorded by a group called the Ever-Green Blues in 1967. I don't know anything about them, but I've listened to their arrangement and it's remarkably similar to the one by The Grass Roots. The GR cover is a bit better, in my opinion.

My cousin got me to learn this song
He was my bass player since we were in our 20's
We played it a couple times and decided to add it to a set
we played a gig every 4th of July , lots of other groups ,a huge jam session
but each band alway played a set then later in the night we had a free for all
He passed in June never jetting to play it in public

Now I play it a lot

I loved the Grass Roots ,my brother turned me onto them when he returned from Vietnam ,,,but for some reason I didn't know this one
it has a change that messed with me ,,but we nailed it

I love music from this era too

@rckt148 Very sorry for your loss.

Sounds like you had great fun performing at the 4th of July gigs.

@Rutterman we did ,,a chance to thank our fans for supporting us so many years
the ones that were still alive ,,now I am the only remaining member of the band
the Lead guitar player went first ,then the drummer ,now my cousin the bass player ,,
I always said he was good at his job ,,no matter who joined us
He was the time keeper ,not the drummer ,he was always on the money ,
Now that he is gone I am hanging it up
I played a little that 4th ,,but not at the bash ,,I couldn't
I played a gig on new years ,,but I am done ,,we had our run
we did everything we set out to do
and thank you for your kindness by the way
