I Hate Renting And Landlords

Spent the last couple of weeks being involved in the trial of a former neighbor who was being illegally evicted from her apt home of 28 years. I testified because her landlord whom I call BFC (Big Faceless Corporation) is doing the same unethical thing he did to me and all the other long time tenants. He evicted her (and me) while she was in the hospital and therefore could not adequately respond to the eviction notice. Going to court each day, waiting to testify, then testifying was stressful. All the former evicted long time tenants were there to testify for my former neighbor; it was sort of like a neighborhood reunion, but not the kind we would've hoped for.

She lost her case. She is devastated. She (through her attorney) appealed for a hardship hearing hoping the judge will consider her poor health, age (76), and very low income as factors and will either allow her to stay or at least give her more time. The hardship hearing is coming up in 5 weeks, around early June.

The unethical landlord is turning our old apt bldg into an AirB&B. The head of the city housing commission testified that the landlord is now running an illegal hotel but stated that the city and the housing commission haven't enough funds to fight these rich landlords.

My neighbor's eviction is being upheld. But the court is giving her an extension due to hardship; she will be going back to court in mid August. The stress has been very hard on her. She is not well at all but still trying to fight this with help from her son and a good attorney.

Sorry! I just accidentally deleted a comment/question!

My answer:
Yes, it is a rent controlled apartment building located in Hollywood, California.

Again, so sorry for the accidental deletion!
