I Hate The Mainstream Media

Left wing bias in the media. Before, it seems that that claim was mostly the right just whining about not getting their way with the media promoting societal progressivism, apart from maybe a few isolated cases where they might have had an actual point. But now they’re finally right about it! It seems the media has been more biased than ever in recent years, being so blatant about it that it’s an insult to people’s intelligence.

@sarabee1995 I guess I’m a liberal. Hah!

But I’m not too fond of labels because everyone seems to have a different definition for each label.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@SimplyTracie Well exactly. Labels get misused and abused. People who are actually leftist have usurped the label liberal.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
@sarabee1995 And vice versa as well as mislabeling a Rightist/Conservative.

Do you believe the media should call the President out on his lies?
daisymay · 51-55, T
@Theliberal Sorry, no. He promised Mexico would pay for it. I'm not Mexico, so I'm certainly not paying.
Theliberal · 36-40, M
@daisymay he promised it would be done, so yeah... like it or not buddy your tax dollars will be involved if enough isnt made from boarder control
daisymay · 51-55, T
@Theliberal No, he promised that Mexico would pay for its entirety. Do you not remember that part? How convenient for you.

Bye!

I agree.
Left wing media IMO is indeed an enemy of the people.
They lie, mislead, exaggerate, leave out, misreport regularly.
Their mission is clear, to destroy Trump at all costs.
I suppose because he is doing a great job Making America Great Again.
Trump has single handedly reversed much of the damage done by Obama and the left.
Politicians in general don't like Trump.
Politicians are in business to keep themselves in office - not to resolve problems. The MSM aids and abets the left in their poor reporting.
KaysHealingPath · 36-40, F
@Budwick you really think he’ll make it that long? I don’t think he really likes the job tbh
Budwick · 70-79, M
@KaysHealingPath
you really think he’ll make it that long?
Sure! Why not?
What's not to like about the job? And, he's really good at it too!

@Budwick lol 👌🏼

The bias was there in the past, but at least you could wade through it to find whatever fact the bias was based on. Now, it's all anonymous sources and cherry-picked data presented in the most doomsday, hysterical way possible to feed outrage and drive clicks and viewers while denying anything that doesn't fit the desired narrative.

We're watching the death of legit journalism, at least in the corporate form.

I think it's important to recognize the difference between bias and untruth. Bias is not synonymous with untruth, it's the injection of opinion into reporting. To say "That stupid Trump went to China" and "Trump went to China" are getting the same truth across, that Trump went to China, one is just injecting opinion into it. Of course they're often more surreptitious than that and maybe no opinion is easily detectable: "A man was arrested" and "a black man was arrested" could both be biased depending on the source (one deliberately including the race, one deliberately hiding it!)

If you can detect the bias, you can glean the truth (as if it were being put through a sieve). Of course we shouldn't have to do that, but that's the reality. If I want opinion, I'll read an editorial.

The way the media reports is a product of a vicious cycle. People want their own opinions reinforced, so the media gives them what they want. We want to be told "your side is right, the other side is pure evil". But they want it because it's all they've ever known, from the media, et al. We tend not to see bias when we agree with it. But I'm at the point where even if I agree with the bias, I don't want to see it. It's like you said, insulting to my intelligence. I don't want things omitted and twisted to fit my preconception of the world.

Well I mean I would say that from what I’ve seen in my life, the mainstream media tends to be more biased leaning left but I think it’s important to remember that media has always been biased. I mean since media has existed in ancient Rome, the media has always tried to convince the general population of the ideas they want to convey. That’s just how media works.
whowasthatmaskedman · 70-79, M
The moment a commentator says you should stand behind a position just to back the Flag, the Nation or The Office, you should smell the B.S. Every nation should be run for its people. If it isnt. you get new people to run it. But you look at what they do, dont believe a word they say until its backed with action.
Theliberal · 36-40, M
I think they are purposely doing it to divide the people. When the people are divided it makes the Govt stronger. They know a United population has very little use for big gov.
I don't entirely trust the mainstream media, but I distrust the fringe media more, and REALLY distrust people who tell people to tell people to believe them and not to trust the media.
SimplyTracie · 26-30, F
I remember my dad only watching Fox News during Obama’s tenure. Now he hardly ever watches Fox.

I’m not sure what you mean by “recent years” but it’s always been biased in my short memory.
FreeSpirit1 · 51-55, F
And yet the country is pretty evenly split down the middle politically, it doesn't make sense that a country so evenly split has a media so far to one side.
JesseInTX · 51-55, M
There is no such thing as journalism anymore. It’s only opinion pieces. And the vast majority of them at the mainstream level are left wing.

😂😂😂😂 @xRedx
CountScrofula · 41-45, M
I wouldn't call it a 'left' bias. But I also wouldn't particularly call the Democrats left.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
It's like mainstream is way left and Fox is way right and where's the damned truth? It's a challenge.
Carver · 31-35, F
@uncalled4 The truth is for one to find themselves. One should never rely on the media to be the source for the full truth. If only it were that easy.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Carver Agreed.
