I Am a Farmer

Well, I am not exactly a farmer, but my husband is. We moved far away from the city to a 1.8 hectare land when we decided to be together. My mother bought this land for us, because she saw how in love we were. Before this, my husband lived in Europe his whole life, studying plants and working in plant factories or nurseries, and farms. He wanted his own land though. He did not want to stay a slave to another man, nor does he approve of chemical farming. Hid belief is into natural farming, specifically, Masanobu Fukuoka's way of natural farming. On the other hand, I am an artist and an emotional writer living in Asia. I have always abhored the city, the chaos, polution, and most especially- the People. I can say I like animals more than humans, haha. We met online, fell in love, and wanted so badly to be together.

So here we are, in an isolated place in my country. Our house is under mountains and trees and beside our land is a river. It is as natural and bewildering as it can be. We have snakes, venomous one. We have frogs, bees, butterflies, birds, hawks, worms, bats, mosquitoes, and many more species of animals (except humans bec we have no neighbour).

My husband brought me closer to nature- not just farming. He gave me an inside look to every plant; from seeds to the very end of its life, usually its end is in our stomach. He farms because he wants nature to thrive. He farms because he wants to have food for us. He does not use any machines nor cars. He does not use pesticides or chemicals. He does not plough. He simply lets the trees grow, and the seeds sprout. Because of him, I have more respect to farmers and the power of nature.

What I learned from a farmer are these:
1. Every plant has a purpose. Be it weeds, flowers, or crops. They come at a time that the soil needs it.

2. The soil does not want to be naked or bare. There must always be something covering it. Wouldn't you want to be clothed when the sun is hitting you?

3. You should not rush nature. Everything has its own timing. Respect the process.

4. Nature rewards those that wait and work hard.

5. Trees are the saviour of plants and soil.

I am not a farmer, but honestly everyone should start being closer to nature. We should all know where our food comes from, and we should all appreciate the hard work nature and farmers do for us.
