I Love Horses

I often jokingly accuse these two beauties of being non productive burdens. Today while gloomily cleaning up their corral, it dawned on me that My accusation is ridiculously false.

I shovel this crap into a trailer. When full, I unload it into a pile at the edge of the woods. After a year I start a new pile. I go back later to the year old pile and starting at the bottom I reload the crap onto the trailer, but instead of crap, I have nutrient rich soil. If I have been patient enough it’s no longer toxic and I use it to fertilize, pasture, gardens and trees. Some is used by friends and neighbors and the community garden is supplied with a load. These two and their little buddy (Shetland pony) eat mostly home grown hay (grass) and a little bit of store bought grain and they provide us with much more value. And I thought they were to simply be ridden and watched! 🙂

@waleskinder these two are about to be fed, notice their happy demeanor. Mine had just realized I was empty handed. Lol
