I Love to Watch College Football

Rivalry time. 1st write up for this weekend's set of games:

From the Cotton Bowl this Saturday, October 6 at Noon, 16th ranked Texas Longhorns take on Rival 7th ranked Oklahoma Sooners at 12 Noon.

Despite another confusing loss to Maryland followed by another lack luster game to start this season, the Longhorns have put together a fine looking team playing great Defense. QB Sam Ehlinger has thrown for 1,185 yrs, 9 TDs with 2 INTs for the season with RB Tre Watson leading the rushing game with 280 yrds and a TD. The Longhorns also have three other players rushing between 132 and 207 yards. At Wide Out Li' Jordan Humphrey has 26 catches for 402 yrds and 3 TDs, Collin Johnson has 350 yrds and 3 TDs, and of course it was D'Shawn Jamison last week that ran back the punt for a 90 yard score sealing the victory against K-State.

The run Defense has been great and the secondary has been doing its share getting six picks, three against TCU and only allowing the Horned Frogs, Trojans and Wildcats one touchdown pass in the last three games. One point of concern is the pass rush could be a little better, and as good as these last three teams are this season, the Sooner's Offense is a lot better. But certainly a big notice of change on the Defense this season is they do tackle a ton better than in seasons past. That is truly a good thing to see because it does not diminish typically as the season goes on, only improves and that is a good sign going into this game as well as for the rest of the season still to play.

It is possible that if Kyler Murray played for almost any other team he would be my favorite player. Thus far he has thrown for 1,460 yards, 17 TDs with 2 INTs, also has ran for 285 yrds and 4 TDs. Trey Sermon is the leading ball carrier with 294 yrds and a pair of TDs, while WR Marquise Brown has 24 receptions for 544 yrds and 5 TDs along with eight other sooner receivers with at least one TD catch.

This is always a close game with the underdog cover each of the last 5 times. Of course just covering isn't what we want, the straight out upset will somewhat depend on our Longhorns improving on the pass rush, stopping any big plays and closing out the game late. He is no Baker Mayfield, but we can not give Murray a chance for late game heroics or it may be horrific... but, Halloween is still almost a month away! Go Longhorns!
