I Love to Watch College Football

Week 5

The Thursday/Friday College Football TV games:

Date: Thursday, September 28th
Texas (1-2) vs. Iowa State (2-1)
Game Time: 8:00 pm ET
Venue: Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, IA
Network: ESPN
Latest Odds : TEX -6
Big 12 conference opener between the Texas Longhorns and Iowa State Cyclones. Iowa State is generating a pass rush, but the secondary is getting burnt, allowing ten touchdown passes and getting hit for 885 yards in the three games. Good news for emerging star at WR Sophomore Collin Johnson. I believe it may still be up in the air at QB though. The key will be 3rd down on the defensive side with the Longhorns doing a good job and the Cyclones struggling with it. Even at home if you are stuck being predictable and long on third down it is going to be a long night. Even so, the Cyclones QB Jacob Park has been good on their attack when they can stay balanced. Another great effort on the road will be needed for our Longhorns to take care of business.

Date: Friday, September 29th
Miami Hurricanes vs. Duke Blue Devils
CFB: 7:00 PM EST
Sep. 29, 2017
TV: ESPN
Latest Odds : MIA -6.5
If you know anything from my college football posts you remember that I have always liked Coach Richt even if I have never really been a Hurricane fan. This combined with my hatred of duke (with the hot intensity of a thousand burning suns) my pick is easy. The game however will not be easy. Although rolling, especially in the running game the rust may need to be shaken off for the ‘cains to pull this one out late. It will be easy to underestimate this underrate basketball school in this one, they will put up some points, but I do see the talent from southern Florida prevailing in a closer then I would like to see game. At least for three quarters.

USC Trojans (4-0) vs. Washington State Cougars (4-0)
Game Time: 10:30 pm ET
Venue: Martin Stadium, Pullman, WA
Network: ESPN
Latest Odds : USC -3.5
Pac-12 battle of the unbeaten under the Friday Night Lights! The Trojans relied heavily on QB Sam Darnold while Mike Leach’s passing attach is working at a whole other level – even for this program. Though not playing anyone like the Trojans so far, they have still put up some impressive numbers, and will be at home. Darnold might be the best quarterback in this game, but he’ll throw interceptions if this gets into a shootout. The Cougar secondary can make plays, with five picks so far.
The Cougar offensive line is good, but it’s been uncharacteristically mediocre in pass protection, giving up 17 sacks even with the quarterbacks getting the ball out of their hands in a hurry.
The USC pass rush has been terrific, with eight sacks in the last two games. Porter Gustin might not be back on the outside, but Christian Rector and the rest of the defensive front should be able to get to Luke Falk just enough to apply a little pressure.
The consensus pick is the Trojans will eventually take over this game, maybe half way through the 4th quarter (kind of like I am thinking about the game earlier). Again though if it does becomes a shoot out, I like the home team and with the mounting injuries USC has been having, I would not be surprised with an outright upset.
