The Black & Ambers head to the Gnoll on Thursday to face a Neath team full of confidence after a fine display at Sardis Road. They looked like getting a victory after a man of the match performance by former Newport full-back Ed Howley before a big finish by Pontypridd left them without even a losing bonus point. Neath have a strong pack and some good running backs and will give the Rodney Parade outfit a stern test.
Newport will be looking to get their show back on the road after a poor performance against Bridgend on Saturday. If they can put in an error-free 80 minutes then an away win is in their sights. It’s a quick turnaround from Saturday and the coaching team will be pleased that the squad didn’t pick up any more injuries. With Garin Harris, Will Evans, Dan Partridge, Brendan Lampitt, Tom Pascoe, Owen Williams, Haydn Palmer and Elliot Frewen still on the injured list the team is a bit stretched.
Young Chris Coleman starts at tight-head after a good showing on Saturday with fit again Rhodri Jones moving straight in to the second row. Kyle Tayler comes in at seven alongside Reuben Tucker and Rhys Jenkins. Ryan James and Matt O’Brien are the half backs with Arwel Robson getting the full-back spot.
Newport: John Lavender, Evan Whitson, Chris Coleman, Adam Brown @, Rhodri Jones, Reuben Tucker, Kyle Tayler, Rhys Jenkins, Ryan James, Matt O’Brien, Jon Morris, Chay Smith, Tom Riley, Wes Cunliffe, Arwel Robson.
Replacements: Henry Palmer, Matt Prosser, Tom Piper, Dan Mock, Craig Attwell, Owen Davies, Llywarch Ap Myrddin, Geraint O’Driscoll.
