Listen to Grandpa: is it ok to ask a grocery store if they are thinking of carrying a newer version of a specific product?

I may be walking into a minefield here, bear with me. There is a store by me I prefer because it's at the first floor of my building, very convenient. I eat a ton of Chicken Breast Patties to save money and keep my sugar down. I love them. So the store at my building sells them and was also selling these 'strips' from Perdue. I bought the strips,didn't like them because they were like processed gizzards, and apparently the neighborhood feels that way because they are cheaper and cheaper without people buying them. I do want to support this store because the people are nice, but they didn't seem thrilled that I wasn't buying them either as I'm very thin. Food town by me also has the chicken breast patties, the same ones, but in the ingredients, NO SOYBEAN OIL. So even though food town has them for 2 dollars more and it's otherwise the same, I buy them because I totally cut soy out of my diet.

Can I say I have an allergy, ahem not wanting my man boobs to get bigger, and ask if they plan on carrying the soy free version? But then they may charge more and I'll look stupid.
