I Think Some Tv Shows Are Really Stupid But I Still Watch Them
There was this show on Spike TV called Deadliest Warrior that was one of my favorite shows for a while when I was in high school. The premise is pretty interesting: it pits various warriors throughout history against each other to see who would in a simulated battle. I thought it was the coolest thing for quite a while but as I got older and started learning more about history, I learned that this show is actually incredibly stupid and has a lot of misleading information. 馃槙
For the first two seasons, they based the results on who would win solely on the weapons they used and not taking their tactics into consideration at all. Some warriors they gave weapons that were purely inventions of Hollywood!
For example, they gave William Wallace a freaking ball and chain as a long-range weapon just because he's depicted using in the film Braveheart and they gave the ninja a ninjato (katana-like short sword) even though there is no historical evidence of these ever existing before the 20th century.
And some of the "experts" they bring in to test the weapons of the warriors featured on the show have some really questionable credentials. I mean, an "I.R.A. weapons specialist", a "world champion knife fighter" and a "pirates weapons master"? Lmao, get real! 馃槅
Let's not forget the match-up in the final episode of the series: Vampires vs. Zombies. 馃槮 Since that show first began, I knew they were going to run out of ideas eventually as there's only so many warrior throughout history they can use. But that final episode showed that they definitely broke the bottom of the barrel. The show was even canceled after that. I think the network knew that it went everywhere it could possibly go. 馃う
I guess it's still an entertaining show if you're either unaware or can overlook all the bullshit involved and I still say the premise of the show isn't a bad idea. But despite being a popular and successful program for its time, Deadliest Warrior was a pretty big joke. 馃槀
