I Believe It Is All Chaos And Statistics

Interesting to see the difference of fatality rates in different countries. Overall, it's currently stands at 3.8%, but it varies greatly by country:

Country: Fatality Rate (Cases / Deaths)
--------------------------------------
China : 4.0% (80,849 / 3,199)
Italy : 7.3% (24,747 / 1,809)
Iran : 5.2% (13,938 / 724)
S. Korea: 0.9% (8,162 / 75)
Spain : 3.7% (7,843 / 292)
Germany : 0.2% (5,813 / 11)
France : 2.3% (5,423 / 127)
USA : 1.9% (3,594 / 68)
Switzerland: 0.6% (2,217 / 14)
UK : 2.5% (1,391 / 35)
Norway : 0.2% (1,254 / 3)
Netherlands: 1.8% (1,135 / 20)
Sweden : 0.3% (1,040 / 3)
Belgium : 0.5% (886 / 4)
Denmark : 0.2% (864 / 2)
Austria : 0.1% (860 / 1)
Japan : 2.9% (839 / 24)
Other : 1.1% (8,357 / 88)

The differences in fatality rates would point out to each country overall population health and/or effectiveness of its healthcare infrastructure. Several numbers stand out: South Korea having a rate of less than 1% even as it has the 4th largest number of cases, particularly compared with Japan (almost 3%). This may be due at least in part because Japan has a higher percentage of people 65 and older (25% of people in Japan are above 65 yo, compared with 14% in South Korea). Yet, I would also expect a higher fatality rate in European countries for that same reason, as the above-65 population in Europe hovers around 20%. Yet, although Italy has a whopping fatality rate of 7%, other countries such a Germany and France have much lower fatality rates. Unsurprisingly, Scandinavian countries seem to be doing very well, with Sweden, Norway and Denmark all having a fatality rate under 0.3%

Another note is that the "average" fatality rate is skewed by the higher-than-average fatality rate of of China and Italy combined, which among them have 62% of all coronavirus cases and 77% of coronavirus deaths. It's telling that the Chinese Government has been touting its focus on treating coronavirus with "Traditional Chinese Medicine" (herbs and such) as a "great success". Yet, if we remove the top two countries (China and Italy) from the stats, the fatality rate drops to 2.3%, which may be a more accurate average number. So I wouldn't bet on Chinese herbs to keep people alive...
