I Love Janis Joplin

I started watching the "Little Girl Blue" documentary last night and am even more in love with her than I was before. She was the perfect example of a woman who was bullied for not being attractive growing up, who then owned it entirely (letting her hair grow free, wearing counter-culture clothes) and then discovered her own interests separate from what everyone else was doing. That, in turn, played a big part in her becoming a millionaire.

It's also necessary to mention that instead of giving up in life when no one around her in Texas understood her views, she had the courage to go to California and find the life of her dreams. It's probably the most inspiring story I personally have ever heard.

You could harp on her for her drug use. But ultimately that doesn't take away from her bravery. Her willingness to do what she believed was right.
