Since the US doesn't have free healthcare...

...Do you have to pay the hospital after giving birth over there?
Annie · 31-35, F
According to a study from 2013, the cost of having a baby in the USA is approximately $30000 without complications. If a caesarean is needed it pushes the cost to around $50000

Those numbers come from a study by Truven Health Analytics

I think your misunderstanding how things in the USA work, Federal and State healthcare policies aren't the same things.
But even putting aside how healthcare policies are funded, on a state or federal level, No emergency services cannot by law refuse to treat somebody who requires it regardless of their ability to pay.

@xCoinx: I mean, I'm probably misunderstanding something. I'm not from the US, after all, and our healthcare systems seem to be pretty damn different.

Still, I am pretty sure you don't have universal health care over there. Just wondered if that counts with childbirth as well.

@NorthernRoses: the healthcare system in the U.S. Is quite different from the European healthcare system. Both have their flaws but both work as best they can (most of the time) within the context that they emerged

Well...hopefully the person has some type of health insurance or it will be an extremely expensive event.
Dreammmer · 56-60, M
There aint no free healthcare :)
Seriously, the US still has healthcare and Obamacare is still enacted and alive.
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
@Dreammmer: I mean, of course you still have health care. Would be crazy if a country like the US didn't have any. 😱
Goralski · 51-55, M
Everyone has healthcare always had
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
@Goralski: Well, apparently not in the US, at least.
Goralski · 51-55, M
@NorthernRoses: nowhere else in d world. ..somebody is paying
NorthernRoses · 22-25, F
@Goralski: When I say free health care, I am referring to universal health care. As in you don't get huge bills after getting any sort of health care. I was hoping this would be obvious, but it seems I was mistaken about that. Sorry about that.
In here, if you got no money, you're not entertained.

If the woman has health insurance, she has to pay her deductible. If her deductible is $1000 00, then she is billed for that. If her deductible is $15,000, then she has to pay that.
PeanutsauntieP1982 · 41-45, F
If you don't have health insurance, you have to. If you do have insurance, you pay whatever the insurance doesn't cover.
goliathtree · 56-60, M
no one has free health care. "free" healthcare is paid for by someone's taxes.
djjohnson · 41-45, M
Yes but most health insurance plans will pay for most if not all of it.

I guess it's like buying citizenship to your baby
goliathtree · 56-60, M
There is no such thing as free healthcare.
SW-User

specialED1256 · 56-60, M

Of course. A hospital cannot refuse emergency treatment though.
