Anyone find the sound of a breathing device (Cpak...?) as creepy as I do?

My upstairs roommate sleeps with this breathing device and it makes this horror movie sound effect...very creepy. When I first moved in, I'd awaken in the night and hear this sound and have anxiety attacks. It took me weeks to figure out what it is.

The device is in fact CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure). It keeps the alveoli from collapsing during expiration. And I've always wondered how anyone could possibly sleep with that device strapped to his face.

takes some getting used to but it's better than increasing the odds of dying in your sleep
Like darth vader is awake in your apartment for a midnight snack?

Friend of mine had a son with Cistic Fibrosis, a big respirator the size of a speaker that shook the main floor of the bungalow at night. Knowing enuff about the disease, his odds, and what the machine was, it gave me the creeps.

Sad to say, CF patients usually die young.
@syncopated: Research has come a long way but his death always haunted me. Even as a child I knew something was very wrong.

I sound straight out of star wars
He or she may need to have it updated, the newer ones are very quiet (I paid for a CPAP for my father, who suffers from sleep apnea. It helps him get a better night's sleep because he can breathe more easily, and my mother hasn't complained about the sound.
