Would this bother you?

Poll - Total Votes: 16
I'd walk out, and find another doctor
It wouldn't bother me at all.
I'd let them do the procedure, but I would be super uncomfortable whenever I had to wait on them.
I'd let them do it, but make funny jokes about it whenever I saw them at work.

You need to go to a specialist for an intimate exam or procedure...something like a colonoscopy or if you're a woman, maybe a pap smear.
You walk into your appointment and the doctor walks in and you realize that it's a customer from your work that you have waited on for years, but never knew their name.
Would you allow them to do the procedure, or walk out because you're embarrassed to get an intimate procedure done by a customer you've interacted with for years?

No. I would let them do it and ask for discount.

It wouldn't bother me, as they are a professional. They would probably be more annoyed, because they would assume I will be asking them medical questions every time I see them.
Mardrae · F
@Bubbles I've actually done that. I work retail, and a dermatologist comes in frequently and I have asked her questions before. She's always very nice and answers all my questions.

@Mardrae It probably depends on the person, but I have a friend who is a doctor and she says that she always gets asked medical questions, so she tries to keep what she does a secret haha

My father-in-law was one of two ob-gyn docs in a town, so many of his patients knew him socially, from church or the country club, etc. I wondered how they felt being under his care. Fortunately, both docs refused to talk about their patients.
Mardrae · F
@exexec that's awesome that he protected their privacy. Some doctors don't.
@Mardrae Really ? Doctor—patient confidentiality is important. Like potential lawsuit important.

Wouldn’t you know their name and make a connection? If it’s years you most likely would have known but if you didn’t I would leave if it were me. A dentist is one thing, the cooch is another.
Mardrae · F
@Keepitsimple I'm not good with names. I work in an extremely busy store and have waited on the same customers for years and never known their name or profession. It would freak me out if I had to get a pap smear and walked in to find out the doctor doing the procedure was a customer.

@mad205039 I used a female associate as my primary care physician.

Wouldn't bother me because I know of common everyday jobs that know about my personal life already.

You think your garbage man doesn't know personal things about you? He does just by performing his own job without really caring.
Mardrae · F
I think why it would bother me so much is because I was beaten by an ex husband when I was young, and I was bleeding from my kidney and had to go to the ER and they gave me a catheter...and the nurse that put it in was a girl that I went to high school with and we didn't get along in school at all..and then another time I was going to a therapist for what I went through with my ex, and I referred my best friend to the therapist. She came to me a few weeks later and told me word for word what I had talked about to the therapist in our sessions! I lost a lot of trust in doctors after that, and I always figured that the doctors talked about their patients to their spouse or friends.

@Mardrae that was not just awful, and unethical, it was illegal. So sorry about all of your experience. Talking about catheters, I developed a kidney stone and to make a long story short, ended up hospitalized and going to surgery one night. The circulating nurse, a woman, cane in to introduce herself and said she would be in the OR but would leave me to have some privacy. I responded, be serious, You are going to be not just see I g my naked body, but handling it, so don't leave, I'd rather have your support while I am awake.

Depends on the capacity in which they were a customer, but I think that's alright as long as you're not too uncomfortable.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
I have actually been on both sides of this situation.
Mardrae · F
@samueltyler2 wow..were you at all uncomfortable?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Mardrae not really. One situation in which I was the actual physician for a friend's wife and she was having an abortion. That was a bit troublesome. My wife was upset when she learned about it and I had not told her. I had a cystoscopy at my own hospital and if you have no idea what that is, my genitals were totally on display and the nurses, that I knew, took care of me, cleaned me and prepped me and cleaned me when the procedure was over.
Degbeme · 70-79, M
Not at all. I`ve had a Cystoscopy done twice and my wifes cousin worked there.
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
Let them do it, and try not to think about it when I saw them
