In your opinion, which is worse—physical or psychological addiction to meds?

4meAndyou · F
Psychological addiction. I had to battle MYSELF and my own cravings, and frankly, my own deeply ingrained HABITS when I quit smoking...for ten years. I am VERY stubborn, apparently...😉

@CereBellum It leaves one's system completely after a short number of weeks...I think it's five weeks. After that point, ALL of one's addiction symptoms are simply one's own mind having childish fits because one is changing one of it's favorite habits.
@4meAndyou yes I would imagine that the triggers would be enormous.

@CereBellum For me, because I was a chain smoker, I had a cigarette after every meal, and whenever I was driving. I always smoked when I drank a cup of coffee, and whenever I drank alcohol, whenever I was nervous, or whenever I was at a party.

I’ve read once that physical addiction is a lot easier to treat. I mean, withdrawal symptoms exist and they can be unpleasant for sure, but with the right antidotes and other treatments it can be managed fairly quickly. However, psychological addiction is way more complicated. The mind is such a dark, mysterious abyss.

I think psychological addiction is worse, it's not easy being addicted either way but at least with a purely physical addiction it's pretty easy to treat.

Psychological addiction is far harder to untangle and is what makes for so many relapses in people who want rid of their addiction.

They are both quite a problem and one does lead to the other. I couldnt say which is worse.

I think the psychological part would be the hardest.

Psychological. It’s hard to fight your own mind.

Doesn't a physical addiction of drugs eventually lead to a psychological addiction by its nature?
I think addiction is addiction, equally bad.
@SW-User Addiction to anything bad for you is serious.

@CereBellum That's what I am saying. They're both addictions and addictions by nature have a psychological impact. To me, any addiction is to be treated equally serious.

Physical, especially if the physical addiction can cause horrible withdrawal symptoms.
YMITheWayIM · 46-50, M
I'd say physical, because of my never ending experience with psychological shit.

The physical dependence is an outcome of the psychological. So psychological.

@Nobody00 But why?

Cause physical withdrawal cold turkey for heroin lasts about three days@CereBellum it is a three day trip into hell fire and back including being in a meat grinder where it feels like your bones are crushing and someone pokes your heart with needles....but after three days you are a brand new person, many people never go back to it. If it was psychological addiction then they will definitely relapse...
