Australia please

Take me away ......

The crocodiles and most big bitey things are all up in the far north tropical area. Most of the Australia in the cooler areas is very safe. We don't even have bears or big cats. Yes the snakes and a few spider can kill but it's really hard to even find one, you'd have to go looking. The thing that kills most people especially tourists is when they swim in the ocean and get caught in rips. Even the sharks leave most people alone. The far south is much cooler too so if you don't like the heat, Tasmania is the greatest of our States. We also have some snow skiing resorts in winter. Our politics reflects the nation so both sides of government are quite similar with respect to left and right, no real extremes. So like we have a government funded national health system and both sides are fine with that. So most people here are on the same page politcically so when covid came along it was relatively easy to get people to follow the medical advice which is basically how we ended up with almost no cases. However we do have our lunatic fringe like the US does, but our population is about a tenth of the US so our crazies keep to themselves although the social media has given them friends and told them they're not alone, so i expect things to get worse here long term. Still, it's a great place to live or visit for a vacation.

Here's a 6 foot long tree lizard i saw the other day out running. Harmless but apparently larger than what most people expect lol

@Mindful If only that snake was wearing a mask i would have been much more accepting of it's presence 😂

@SW-User Yeah, you'd think they'd be more considerate of the health of others. Damn inconsiderate snakes! In the words of one of our long-gone cultural icons, "Somebody should blow snakes up!"
Mindful · 56-60, F
@SW-User is they start following social guideline be sure to let me know
Abstraction · 61-69, M
The idea of poisonous and dangerous things is really, really overstated. I never think about it. In my entire life I almost never have encountered anything dangerous in nature.

What I like about Australia is that we are what we would call, 'laid back.' Relaxed. 'No worries,' is a common saying. We also have a natural disrespect for authority and self-important people.

But it's not a perfect place or anything.

@OogieBoogie I did have a 6 foot tiger snake under my feet once, keeping pace with me, but that's a different story. ;)
Mindful · 56-60, F

Hope you are not offended by the “C” bomb. Because that naughty word is spoken fluently and shamelessly even when used in a praising expression.

It's a big country with a lot of variety. It's very urbanised so once away from the cities there's plenty of open spaces.
Mindful · 56-60, F
@nowic2 Are the open spaces hilly? flat ?mountains?
nowic2 · 61-69, M
@Mindful the topography varies a lot across the country but you will find all 3. Oz is relatively flat though. The highest mountain is only 6000 odd ft.
Bigcountry1965 · 56-60, M
I always wanted to go to Australia
Mindful · 56-60, F
Me too, mostly because of Crocodile Dundies accent and spunk! The idea of seeing nature as portrayed in that movie was appealing. But I hardly want to get bit by a crocodile!@Bigcountry1965
MOONAMONA86 · 36-40, F

It's hot there I heard plus some poisonous creatures. All the best!
@Donotfolowme it's. not hot everywhere.

I live in the southern state., and we get sNow, hail and lots of rain.
Mindful · 56-60, F
I just re read this! Snow and hail!! Is the hail often? What kind of roofs do you have that can resist hail? If we get hail they are often in need of repair. @OogieBoogie
