I use mouth wash and keep it in my mouth on the spot that is painful for about five mins or less

Sometimes holding cold water in your mouth against the offending tooth for as long as you can bear can help, as can brushing the gum above the tooth to make it bleed which can help release pressure. These were recommended to me by a nurse as interventions. Obviously don't damage the gum though.
