What is your view on vegan ?

BlueVeins · 22-25
Veganism is better for the environment, kinder to animals, and potentially safer than a conventional store-bought diet one might consume in developed countries. I can't recommend it enough; I've been vegan for a year and it's been great, all kinds of cool new foods to make and try out. Only reasons why one should abstain in my view are poverty (it's more expensive than meats & milks thanks to farm subsidies), multiple concurrent allergies (if you're allergic to legumes AND tree-nuts for example, you'd have immense trouble with a vegan diet), and eating disorders (probably should focus on just keeping your body running rather than sweating the environmental effects).

Not for me. I love meat.
lancetroy · 31-35, M
@Keepitsimple she loves the meat😉
Keepitsimple · 51-55, F
@lancetroy I love a good steak! 😉

They have good points, I can see why some would do it for personal reasons. Like what I agree with is that I can see someone not eating meat because of the horrors of what goes on in factory farms. No matter what, the animal will feel a bit of pain but there's a way to clean kill so they don't feel it, that's not what happens in factory farms though. Generally, good people don't want animals treated that way.

But they make absolutist statements that piss me off because it's VERY misleading and the whole guilt complex and calling people names rubs me the wrong way. For instance, they make a whole lot of claims that everyone was meant to be vegan despite personal experiences like some can't take grains. Some have autoimmune conditions by which grains or starches will cause them to flare up. Others are allergic to many types of fruits or veggies.

There's this weird religious aspect to it and also vegan activist groups that masquerade as literal doctor groups that have their hand in studies and conflating medical knowledge. I mean literally, some of the medical community has spoken out against the rise of these groups and warn that these groups ARE activists and therefore biased.

Since I said that vegans mainly do have points for being vegan but it's absolutist thinking that scares me away from getting into conversations like that.

I'd respect vegans MORE if they would just be honest and didn't have the whole religious, pseudo science thing going on. If I met a vegan that said "hey this is WHY I'm vegan and what I faced in life that led me to that" is perfectly fine but sometimes they go way too far.

I respect the choice obviously but not for me. I like eating meat for a start - plus to be truly vegan starts to get so difficult as there are so many animal products in so many things. I'm very interested in guitar building/repairs I was watching a video on YouTube where the repairer was using Fish Glue to fix a broken guitar top. He explained why he chooses that and offered Hide Glue as an alternative. He then said "If you're vegan and my customer obviously I'll use a suitable vegan glue but I warn you the outcome is unlikely to be as good". Just an example of how to live totally vegan is so difficult.
@SW-User don’t worry I am not vegan but I like the concept
BlueVeins · 22-25
@SW-User I sympathize with where you're at & I just wanna say, veganism isn't an all-or-nothing proposition. Like, nothing in particular is preventing you from keeping the animal products you really care about but ditching the ones that are maybe more negotiable to you. I don't wanna sound like a preachy vegan or whatevs because I understand that people like their creature comforts. And having shopped for non-whool socks more than a few times, I totally get what you mean lol.
Ksmile14 · F
Not for me. But if other people wanna, I have no problem with it.
@Ksmile14 HHaha I am not big fan of meat and cheese .. it’s quite easy for me ... but sometime my body craves for meat 🍖🙄🙄🙄 and I can only eat two piece tho
Ksmile14 · F
@Riseandshine lol I understand.... 🤗
@Ksmile14 🤗🤗🤗
Its my ultimate goal. I cannot stand or rather. feel guilty whenever I eat meet. I was vegan for about a year and it got to the point when just passing the meat dept. made me absolutely nauseous.
SW-User
Worked two weeks for me personally lol I like my steak 😋
@SW-User I can go without meat for month 🤫

It's a lot of work tbh very time consuming

I like a salad on the side.

I switched a while ago because it was the best way for me to lower my impact on the planet. I had quit eating beef 30 years ago for that reason but dairy and other animal agriculture cause more global warming than transportation so I went the whole way.
ikitclaw · 41-45, M
Not for me but I get it's got alot of positives not just for your health.
While I've met many very pleasant vegans I've also met a fair share that are very militant. That puts me off more the the concept of no steak tbh
ABCDEF7 · M
I am vegetarian, but not vegan. I believe you should not eat anything who has emotions.
ABCDEF7 · M
@bijouxbroussard Do you believe that
1. Plants have ears and can understand all languages spoken in this world without being taught? So they understand what has been said.

2. They have vision to see and can observe, and can understand various behaviours.

3. They have heart, heart beats, sweat, pulse and breathing rate that a lie detector machine processes to deduce?

These doesn't seems to be scientific experiments that has factual and logical reasoning behind them that also can be proved and verified later. There can be lot of other factors that they they might have not undertook while conducting such experiments, like lighting & air conditions, water and other environment provided to the plants.

I would be happy to see good quality research done in this. Which has facts and logic to back it.

I believe that plants do have senses that are required for their survival and growth. But there is difference between senses and emotions.

Now a days many people make videos just to get views and subscriptions.
@ABCDEF7 Even tongue in cheek (which I suspect this video might’ve been) I thought it was an interesting premise.
ABCDEF7 · M
@bijouxbroussard When looking at these experiments, it reminded me of a joke.

A scientist was conducting an experiment. He took a cockroach and shouted at him to run. It immediately ran away from there. Then he cut his one leg and shouted again, cockroach again managed to run away. Then the scientist broke one more, this time cockroach was having difficulty in running, but he managed to go away. The scientist continue to break his leg and observe how the cockroach is reacting. When only one leg was remaining the cockroach was still trying to move, but was not able to walk away. Finally the scientist broke his last leg also and shouted many times but the cockroach was not moving at all.

The scientist concluded, "A cockroach stops listening when all his legs are broken."
RopinTexan · 31-35, M
You do you. Just don’t try to force your ethics on others.
RopinTexan · 31-35, M
@Graylight I’ve never seen a meat eater try to convince a vegan to eat meat. Jokes are just that, jokes.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@RopinTexan How many vegans have accosted you?

And keep in mind, for some of them it's a moral issue. They feel just as strongly about the torture and death of animals as others do about things such as abortion. Try to be understanding.
RopinTexan · 31-35, M
@Graylight Me personally, none. I’ve just seen them and heard them attack other meat eaters. Thankfully I’ve managed to avoid these people.

I am pro-life, but I don’t personally attack pro-choicers because I know that isn’t going to change anyone’s mind.
Mrballs · 70-79, M
i got nothing against them, to be honest. some can be a little pushy
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Riseandshine Turns out it hasn't been all that good an idea to drink milk all along.
@Mrballs That’s an easy one. If you were raised enjoying the taste of meat, it’s a little easier to leave it if you can replicate that taste without doing harm.
Piper · 61-69, F
@bijouxbroussard Exactly.
SammyJo · 51-55, F
Kinda cool. I regularly do the Veganuary thing.....nice little RESET for the body...

I find them encouraging and supportive...
hunkalove · 61-69, M
I'm pretty much vegan these days, but I'm not rabid about it. It's helping me beat my diabetes!
@hunkalove well done 👏
FaeLuna · 31-35, F
Nothing wrong with it. My only problem is when people get militant about it, pushing it as if it's the only moral choice.
Graylight · 51-55, F
Go for it. Good for humans, good for other animals, good for the environment.

It's too strict for me, but it's a good way to live.
Aidan · 26-30
It’s been a wonderful 4 year experience. My diet didn’t change much tbh
@Aidan that’s nice 🙂
PinkPunk · F
let people eat what they want..i dont feel morally superior for liking bacon
If it your preference, ok!

I could not care less what others choose to eat or not eat.
ThaiGirl · 26-30, F
How can they manage 😂
[@Thaigirl commitment ... if you want you will do .. it’s all mind game I believe
ThaiGirl · 26-30, F
@Riseandshine I don't want to
@ThaiGirl that’s your choice ..

I would like to do someday
walabby · 61-69, M
Whatever floats your boat. Just don't make it compulsory!
For me its helped me health wise.
Aragorn1 · M
Would never consider it.
@Aragorn1 😬😬😬😬
Tried it for a year and a half and did lose some weight. But I was miserable most of the time. I did make it a point not to push the philosophy onto others or make them feel bad. If you like a juicy steak, go for it.
EuphoricTurtle · 41-45, M
In terms of diet; i'm indiferent to it
in terms of a possible environmental benefit; I applaud it
in terms of how a significant percentage of adherents display moral superiority, I fucking hate it with a passion
Not for me ..
TexChik · F
The human gut was designed to digest animal protein . I don’t agree with the premise that veganism is healthier but if it’s someone’s preference that’s fine . They just won’t want to come over to my house for dinner
DiegoWolfe · 36-40
I disagree with the logic of Veganism, but i do appreciate the desire to have more plants and such in ones diet but everything Vegans stand for is just foreign to me.
SW-User
Not for me, but I admire people who become vegans, as long as they don’t become obnoxious.
Iwillwait · M
@SW-User They always become obnoxious and judgy.
Graylight · 51-55, F
@Iwillwait No, they don't. Some people stay away from animal products simply because they don't like them.
Iwillwait · M
@Graylight I appreciate your insight, my experience has been different.
Jlhzfromep · M
Vegans eat the food my food eats
@Jlhzfromep so technically u are vegan 🥴
Jlhzfromep · M
@Riseandshine vegan by proxy....hmmmm, I guess I can claim that now..hahaha
@Jlhzfromep you can :)
Piper · 61-69, F
That is an often difficult choice, made in an attempt to do the least harm.
ammelee · F
I say no to the vegan lifestyle
@ammelee lol y
ammelee · F
@Riseandshine I tried the vegetarian/was one for many years ...and it wasn't good for my brain
@ammelee Hahha what did it do to your brain 🥴
Not my cup of tea. But my sister is a vegan chef. 😆
Iwillwait · M
They always become obnoxious and judgy.
Nooooo thank you I still love New York strip steak
Each to their own...not for me.
every one to there own thing
Donotfolowme · 51-55, F
More meat for me
I’m not there, and am unlikely to ever be, but I greatly respect those who can maintain those dietary habits.
alan20 · M
@bijouxbroussard I'm nearly there but I like cheese added to some dishes. There's a new and very tasty vegan mayonnaise on the market.
